This is fun... I found that if I line up those plastic milk bottles filled with water, I can stop bullets to check expansion. Just back it with a 3" slab of soft wood to catch the bullet. My 9.3x62 loaded with 286 grain Nosler Partition went through 6 bottles (36" of water). The bullet held together, but lost the front core. A 10%-reduced load of the same bullet went the same distance, but the nose did not peel back as far and the lead stayed in. The 250 grain Noslter BT (loaded light for practice) was found in the 6th bottle. It was in three pieces: core, jacket, and one of the petals. I am going hunting with the Partition.

Welcome to the forum Walter. I have been testing bullets in water filled paper cartons for quite a while. It's a useful tool for comparison purposes. Some can argue that they test in animals and of course thats the purpose of a hunting bullet but when I can I try them out first in water. bullet test in water Join the NRA
