I shoot the RWS TUG ( UNI Classic as they are called now ), but that's for driven game, for stalking you might want something with a flatter trajectory.

...another vote for TUG (dunno if any factory round shoots flatter? - Norma`s A - frame?), might give a try to CDP (Blaser) - check : https://forums.accuratereloading.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/5421043/m/669105584

Doesn't winchester load the 286 partition in factory loads over there?
That load would do well I would think.

I like to use the Norma 286 grain Alaskan on them.

In Spain, the bullet that worked better in drive hunting of deers and boars, has been RWS T-mantel 286 grs. The norma plastic tip worked fine (I own a 9.3X74 and I used it extensively, this bullet most of the times stop the game on its trucks, even with non well located shoots) Most premium bullets as TUG or Switf don't stop the game on the spot, altough they kill it.

As carcano stated, lot of good info in this thread,.....

nevertheless....... I have my doubts on the RWS TUG (now UNI Classic) because the impact velocity is too slow to expand properly on medium sized game. In this special case I would go another way and choose the Lapua Naturalis, which has proven to perform outstanding!! Have a look at it!

Normas 286 grains oryx is one of the better factory cartridges on the market. The alaska bullet is to weak, it will often spit into pieces when it hit bones.

Anyone tried the Prvi Partizan ammo, with the 285 grain cup and core soft points?

If so, I'd love to hear about it. Is it accurate? Good on game? Etc.

...our AR friend Bob F. did test them:

https://forums.accuratereloading.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/.../334107951#334107951

but as I have heard it from the field they are too soft on game (mind you - I am hard - TUG headed Wink)

If you can get hold of RWS KS 247 grains, I suggest you give them a try, I really like this bullet it shoots very nice groups in my rifle, and has a great effect on game, Red Stag and Wild Boar.

One bullet I tried last season and really liked is the French made 251gr FIP, it’s a monometallic cooper bullet with a steel shaft inserted in the middle, it is the softest shooting 9.3x62mm bullet I´ve tried so far, and effect on game was very good, they are however very expensive here in Portugal.
Since they have the aerodynamics of a sledgehammer I don’t think they should do very well on longer shots.

I’ve shot lots of Prvi 285gr Soft Points on the range, they are the cheapest 9,3 ammo I can find here, accuracy is more then acceptable, however I have not tried any on game, so I can’t help you further.

Thanks, mouse93 and Nsiro. I am going to use some for target practice soon. It is incredibly affordable, at less than a buck a round.

A 1998 survey in France gave the following results for RWS ammo

KS : 518 shots 89.38 % death within 10 m
TUG : 177 shots 83.05 % death within 10 m

I am not sure this is significant as KS if often used for stalking, whereas TUG is used for driven game.

Have you guys chronoed that Lapua stuff with the 285? I have and it was incredibly anemic. I bought it for baseline presssure tests and, for that, it was totally useless. From a CZ550 with 23.5" barrel, it was going 2150fps at 41,000psi. WTF is with that. Are there really rifles out there THAT damn flimsy? If I wanted a 35 Remigton, I'd go buy one.

So what IS the hottest factory load out there, so I can make some comparisons. I here tell of some RWS that drove a 285 at ~2500fps. That's the one I want but can't find it.

Conley Precision offers both 286gr Nosler Partition or TSX at a claimed 2500fps.

Nosler Custom Ammunition offers the 286gr. Nosler Partition at a claimed 2430fps.

VERY expensive though....
