I just aquired this rifle. I couldn't pass up the price. What is everybody using for powders and bullets in this cartridge? What seems to be working? I want to use it for deer and coyotes at long range. Thinking of using 140's at around 3200fps? Anybody want to share any pet loads more then welcome. This is my first Savage, I hope it does not dissappoint. I have read lots of good things on accuracy about savage though. This cheap synthetic stock is something else though, haha. Thanks for any replys.

For deer and coyotes at long range, I would suggest the Nosler 130 gr Ballistic Tip. I prefer to load mine mild, but you should be able to reach 3300 fps out of a 24" barrel. Most people seem to like Reloder 19 or Accurate Magpro. I am loading Vihtavuori N-165 in my Model 70 Super Shadow with 130 and 140 gr Ballistic Tips and 140 gr Accubonds. Am curious to see what kind of accuracy you can get out of your Savage. Be sure to let us know. If you want some great information on the various short mag cartridges check out Shortmags forums
BTW, I am just across the river in Kennewick, so I guess we are neighbors.

I was just running some numbers and I think I like the 140g SST. With an advertised B.C. of .495 and a MV of 3200fps. It will have the numbers to be an honest 700 yard deer and coyote getter. I was at shortmags.com and most people are using RL-19 for 130's and Magpro for 140's and 150's as you say. I think I'll start with Magpro and my 140's. I have read and heard so many things on the accuracy of Savages, but the price and the look has never really gotten me. The other day I was at Sportsmans and I saw this rifle on sale for $380. I have not heard 1 bad thing about the accuracy of Savages. I am going back there today to get dies, brass, powder, bullets, etc. I intend to do more longer range shooting and hunting with my rifle. I'll get a good load worked up at a 100 and then take it to 300 and 500 and then 800. Scope is a Leupold VX2, 6-18 Target. With a Nikon Lazer 800 and a good click chart, it should get me to coyotes and deer out to 700. Thanks for the reply.
