Thanks HI, I was talking to the Rigby rep at Melbourne's Shot Show on Saturday and it seems the mounts are made by Mauser and sell here for $340.

As it happens I'd just bought some s/h for $200 along with Burris Signature mounts for $75 - hoping one or the other will work on a Zastava 9.3x62 I'm getting.

The mounts look like they might be made by EAW or Recknagel. Apparently they need to be fairly high for bolt handle clearance.

FWIW their showroom is well worth a visit. You might also get taken to see their workshop out back and meet some of the craftsmen working there. I also got to see some of their collection of original firearms.

When I visited several years ago Mauser wasn’t making standard length actions and I believe they were using actions manufactured by Mayfair Engineering. They may be CNC machined but they are fabulous actions, available in many sizes and configurations, including LH. They have a mag box specifically tailored for the cartridge the action will be chambered for.

Rigby is only doing what they used to do in the past, ie take the best components from various suppliers and putting together a great product.

The wife’s Rigby is a 275 with an original Oberndorf Intermediate action and it has a Holland and Holland QD scope mount that sits too high for me but she likes it. Mine has EAW mounts that sit perfect for me.

The rifle Charlie64 has would run closer to $14,000 as it has the CCH rings and CCH floorplate with the gold inlay which are extras.
I applaud any man whom has the means to buy what tickles his fancy, especially fine rifles!

One question though.
From the pictures I've seen, all of the Highland Stalkers look to have the same barrel profile from .275 to 9.3X62.
Is this correct?

For what its worth, in a True Rigby 275 the Transition action mod. 98 has a longer front ring than other Mausers..The original I sold on AR was a complete barreled action and was recognized by Rigby and is being stocked by them with a letter...I sold it too cheap btw..but the guy that got it truly loved it and I know it will always be in good hands.

I know branded Mauser 98s are also be turned out at the same time.

The metal comes from Mauser anyway.

A quick look on Gunbroker and there are a handful of new M98s from Mauser, not Rigby, going from 7700-10K.

Two original Rigby rifles from the very first made by Mauser for Rigby.
According Speeds archives these first rifles were built by Mauser for Rigby.

Built on "pre 98" Transition actions both with very early Mauser SN's one 1** and the other 9**
They were sold with a english translation of the original Mauser catalog as shown in the rare Korns "Mauser Gewehre und Mauser patente"

I was very fortunate to have procured these two over the years. I

I have often wondered, how accurate are those vintage rifles? Have you shot them much or at all?
