Been thinking of a 9.3X62 as my next rifle project. Looking around at factory offerings I see that many companies build them to the same weight as the 30-06 class of rifle. Which would place a full up rifle with scope and all at about 8.5 pounds give or take. I was thinking that a slightly heavier rifle might be nicer. Something around 9 pounds full up. Not so heavy you start to think you should have gotten something bigger but just a little heavier to make it more shootable without being too heavy. I was also thinking a 24 inch barrel would compliment the setup rather well. Comments ... suggestions ... criticisms

Thanks for the replys thus far. Other questions would be twist rate Kreiger and Pac-Nor recommend a 1:12. Any reason to go with something different? Any reason to go with a longer than a 24" tube?

Sounds nice snowman! I've always liked the 9.3x64. What action did you start with? Where do you get your ammo or components? Did you do any magazine work on it? How many rounds does it hold down? Pics would be great if you can! On another note, the 338-06 I built on a VZ-24 weighs in at about 9 lbs with a 24" bbl, maybe an ounce or two more. Recoil is basically not there (subjective opinion, of course - but I compare things to shooting a 6 lb 45-70, which will get your attention!!!). I think 9 lbs is great plenty for any medium bore rifle. maxman
