I am in the market for a bolt action .308. I really don't want or need a detachable magazine hanging down. I have owned a Ruger M77 in the past and loved it. Is there enough metal on the M77 to thread the barrel for a suppressor? I shoot long guns lefty. I'm old enough now that I'm tired of, and crotchety enough, that I don't like reaching across to work the bolt on a right handed bolt gun so a lefty gun is needed as well as being able to thread the barrel. I've looked online at the Ruger American but here again prefer the old school wood stock and don't know anything about the Ruger American. I'm open to buying a synthetic stock, and other brands if my criterion are there (able to thread the barrel, able to get an after market trigger, and be lefty).

I make my own brakes so could possibly make one to fit. It would probably end up larger in diameter than the barrel. Jim Kobe 10841 Oxborough Ave So Bloomington MN 55437 952.884.6031 Professional member American Custom Gunmakers Guild

My Sauer did not have enough meat so I turned it 1/2 28 then made an adapter to go 5/8 24. Or you could just buy a ruger gunsite scout, live with the bottom metal, and it is already threaded, or change out the bottom metal. I like my gunsite, I put the full rail on top and have a dig pulsar night vision scope. I have a AAC SDN-6 hanging off of it rig now, it is a pork stacking machine. Ed DRSS Member

I've looked at the gunsite scout and it is on my list of possibles. Are their 3,4, or 5 round magazines available either from Ruger or another brand that would fit/work? My .308 can is a YH Phantom. I probably wouldn't buy one again as it is heavy and can't open for cleaning but it is what it is. YH has their on proprietary flash hider/adapter. I already have a 1/2x28 adapter for it for my 5.56. Going to a 1/2x28 would be an option and is a good idea I hadn't thought of.

Hummm!!!. I just tried to pass a .308 round through the 1/2x/28 adapter for my YH Phantom I mentioned in the previous post. The .308 round won't go through. This would really mess up my day if I tried to shoot a .308 through it. I guess I could get a gunsmith to open up the hole. Looks like there is plenty of metal there.

Your adapter is for a 223, as are most 1/2x28 adapters. I turned my barrel down to 1/2x 28 then made a threaded adapter that is 1/2 on the inside and 5/8 24 on the outside then my QD adaptor will screw on. I have messed around with suppressor for some time, you don't need to clean them, I use a little brake cleaner from time to time, and that is about it. Your phantom is a good can...Ruger has a 3, and 5 round mag, both steel and poly that don't hang down too far, that is what I use, the little ruger has a lot off features that you would have to do anyway. I also like the full rail you can get for it...leaves you a lot of options for, mounting night vision, scout scope, or other things... http://www.midwayusa.com/produ...cm_vc=ProductFinding http://www.midwayusa.com/produ...cm_vc=ProductFinding Ed DRSS Member
