What kind of real life velocities does the 338 RCM get with the 225 gr bullet? . The 338 RUM I had was lighter than the 24" 338 win may Ruger Stainless.
It kicked pretty good but not bad. I had a light weight 4x Leupol on it, the RUM
A 22" stainless Ruger I had would do 2640 fps with the 275 gr KBC bullet
But a 20" 338 would only do 2550 fps or so with 250 gr factory loads

I'd like to know about the 338RCM, too, because they come in 13" LOP, if I remember correctly. Interesting package for those with a small frame.

In my .338 Ruger Compact Magnum, I shoot 61 grains of Ramshot Big Game and a 225 grain Hornady Spire point and get right about 2600 fps out of it's 20 inch barrel. That's 1/2 grain over Ramshot's max load but no signs of pressure problems. Great gun. Very handy. I doubt I will ever go back to a .338 Win Mag.

Gummy:

I have never fired a factory round in my gun. However, according to the Hornady web site, they are getting 2750 fps with a 225 grain bullet with their Superperformance ammo. I don't know what barrel length.

I'm okay with the 2600 fps. That way if zero it a smidge under three inches high at 100 yards, you have a max point blank range off about 250 yards. I rarely if ever shoot that far with a .338. If I need something faster, I have a 340 Weatherby but I hate to lug around the Weatherby.

Yes the Compact Magnum comes with a 20" barrel and 13" LOP. The All Weather (SS) comes with a 22" barrel and 13.5" LOP.

My 338 win is a little bigger than what you have been talking about. Its a mauser action, light contour 26 inch barrel. The contour is comparable to a #3 Shillen with two extra inches. It has a leup. VXII 3-9 with a rubber bikini scope cover and a Hogue overmolded stock. Loaded, 3 down and one in the pipe with the scope cover on and a simple nylon sling, it weighs exactly 9.0 pounds.

Thanks for the info Dave. I got my 338 barrel so I need to get it screwed on .. For a hunting riflle really like a 338 RCMa 225 gr TSX at 2700 fps would be dandy. Specially in a 7.5 lb Max rifle and scope weight.
