I know a guy who wore out a .308 Win. bbl. in one night in SE Asia. I think it depends on how fast you shoot the rifle more than anything. He used an M60.

At the moment SS is being held up to the light around here. On the other hand Remington used SS on the M700's when the 7mm RM came out. I never heard of a complaint about that.

My guess is 5,000 shots if they are slow fire.

Stainless steel barrels are supposedly more resistant to throat erosion, but if you fire 20 rounds of full-power .300RUM without letting the barrel cool between shots, you've already done some damage.

Based on the amount of powder used, 1500-2000 rounds before the throat was eroded enough to affect accuracy would be my guess.

Seriously, unless you plan to use the .300RUM on prairie dog control, this is a non-issue.

And at the cost of that brass and loading it you probably will run out of money for ammo and components before you burn out the barrel Big Grin

not to mention your should surgery should you get that far.....

watched a tactical match show on tv thisweekend on the shooting show. they were using one for long distance and said the premium accuracy was out at about 800 rds. can't speak from practical experience cause I can't get one into my 3006 chamber

Based on my experience with similar cartridges, it will greatly depend on how much range shooting you intend to do and your rate of fire. Another factor is if you intend to use light/medium weight for caliber bullets, this will accelerate throat errossion. You should not expect much over 700 rds before errossion starts to effect accuracy. Don't for a moment think that the gun will go from a tackdriver to a scattergun, the degradation will be gradual and unoticeable at first although you might start seeing the throat going in the first 200 shots, if you are adept at looking for it.
