While I dont have a "a combination AK 57 oozie radar laser triple-barrel double-scoped heat-seekin shotgun" named Betty Lou, I do have 3 rifles that have specific names. I will admit that I did not give these guns names, family and friends did and the names just caught on. Here they are:

Ruger No. 1 in 450 NE- This one is called "Tropic Thunder." This is because it started life as a Ruger Tropical and well... it makes a big BOOM when it shoots.

Savage 112 in 338 Edge- This one is aptly named "Dante's Inferno." I thought it would be cool to have "Poca favilla gran fiamma seconda" written on the muzzle brake. So my father correctly named the gun what it is.

Ar-10 in 500 Phantom- This is a work in progress, I am waiting on the barrel, reamer, and dies. My brother is already calling it "Bear Spray" it will be an ultra short barrel (16.25 in with the muzzle brake) as well as a collapsible stock. The main intention is to carry it in bear country, more specifically on Alaska fishing trips.

I have a 30-06 that I had built that has a barrel on it that has a larger contour than I should have. I call it "Moose Dick".

A couple of my friends name their guns (and trucks, and car-topper fishing boats, and you name it). I am not a "namer" and resisted for a long time, but I eventually gave in. I named one of my rifles "Lorraine". This is in homage to the hunter in the animated movie "Open Season", as his rifle was named Lorraine.

The shotgun I hunted small game with when I was a kid I named "Slaughto" which is short for Slaughtomatic.

I have not named any of my rifles thou, nothing seems to fit.

My uncle has named is Ruger 270 "Ma Bell".

Only one rifle in my safe does. Her name is Meg, which is an acronym for "my elephant gun," a 375. I suspect at some point in time I'll get a proper elephant caliber and that will become the new Meg.

I have 2. My P64 M70 in 375H&H is named Walt after my brother. When I told him that I was going on safari he said "If I was going on a safari I would have a P64 M70 in 375H&H so fast it would make your head spin". Sadly he never lived to see me go but I named the rifle after him.
The other is a M700 in 30-06. Its name is Laser because everything I point it at dies.

My guns must have complexes now, knowing that none of them have a name.

I've been known to call any gun "POS"... invariably whenever I end up with a flyer shot... because of course it MUST be the gun...

well i have one called tang safety.
it's to differentiate it between it and the ones that aren't.
and ones called the green stocked AR,or the stag,or the 6-H.
one is called the featherweight roberts,to differentite it from the "jap" roberts.
there is the one with a real name though i call it "my hunting rifle"
so i know the difference between it and the other 7x57 ackley rifle.
others are just known as the 25-06 ruger or the custom 25-06,
or jackies rifle or your mom's 30-06.
generally they are more commonly called "go get your rifle/shotgun/varmint rifle and some ammo if you're goin with me".

At the present time, I have, or my wife and I have only two named rifles. On both of these I in-laid brass plates with the names engraved on them.

One, is Lora's Model 77 Ruger Ultra-Lite in .257 Robert's. Its name is Lucrezia Borgia, the same name Bill Cody used for the "needle gun" that he killed so many buffalo with.

The other is my Mark V Weatherby Deluxe in .300 Weatherby Mag. it is called Nemisis, different spelling, but carries the same meaning.

I have a .458 Lott that has evoked references to two of the Trinity, as well as the Blessed Virgin when shot from the bench, but still no name.

You mean like Turkington, Twede, and Yugotine. Then there's one I call Elmer. It's my 1917 Enfield with Elmer Keith's inspection stamp on the stock.

I have a prewar model 70 .30-06 that I call Otgizabolt.

I'm not a namer, but I did have a .300 weatherby that I nicknamed 'Snoose'.

I only have two that carry names, the rest just go by caliber and company in reference. The first was named by one of the gunsmiths that built her, my 416T. The gunsmith always referred to her as the 'Fat Chick' when he worked on it. That name stuck, The other is a combo 16/8mm that started life as a the only gun that a German immigrant took to Africa when he moved there in the early thirties. His nephew sold it to me and told me how his uncle used the gun for everything, including killing forty leopards. So it goes by 'The Leopard Gun.'

I have 2 with names:
Old 264 Mod 70 named "Betty" that I've had since forever. Betty is my mother's name and my mother always kept me fed. "Betty" finally wore out so I got Dwayne Worley to help me restock her and Darcy Echols put a new barrel on her. She's ready to go again.
Old 375 Mod 70 that I bought a few years ago and have fallen in love with. Named it "Susie" after my wife who took over feeding responsibility from my mother.
I've got a Mod 70 Classic in 300 WM that needs a name but nothing seems to fit so it's just waiting.

I name all my rifles and shotguns, it is just one of those things I enjoy doing, plus my record keeping goes smoother if each has it's own ID. I will list a few --- "Big Red" is a custom buuilt .358 STA from the Winchester custom shop, that has an absolutely fantastic red walnut stock. "Pretty Boy" is a featherweight deluxe .270 WSM Model 70 Winchester with fabulous wood. "The Burn" is a .340 Weatherby that I used to take a B&C Alaska Yukon Moose in the Farewell Burn area of Alaska. "Jim Owens" is a .416 Remington Model 70 African Classic I used to take a Cape Buffalo in the Selous area of Tanzania. The name is in trubute to an old hunting buddie now gone to the happy hunting ground and the toughest guy I ever met. "Accumark" a .257 Weatherby in that Model that shoot lights out, like a Lazer out to 500 yards. "Little Britchs" a stainless steel Model 70 .270 WSM that I got the day my only Grandaughter was born after 6 grandsons. Guess who gets it after I am gone. Well that is just a few of my rifles and I named my Remington SP-10 Ten Gauge "Thunderbutt" because of it's effectiveness on Geese. The names make it easy to tell hunting tails to my grandkids and in my opinion adds a little to the story. Good shooting.

I've only named 1 rifle I've ever owned. It was my Kimber, .270 WSM. It's name was "POS". You can guess why.

Precious (12ga over 7x57R), Africa (9.3x62, yes it's been there.), Long-ranger (custom 270 - very accurate), Moose-gun (44 revolver I killed a moose with) and Death (a 22LR that has killed 10-K's of gophers. The others haven't earned names yet.

The only gun of mine that has a name is my old 30-06. "MAMBA" She earned it.

I have had many rifles and only named one. I bought a JC Higgins 3006 FN Mauser barreled action off the classfieds here at Accurate reloading. Then I purchased a Bell and Carlson stock the one with the aluminum bedding block and added a Timmeny trigger. I topped this rifle with a vintage 6x Weaver. This rifle fits like an old leather jacket, I named the rifle "Old Horrible" I have killed every thing I have pointed it at. When I step out of the house or the hunting camp with this rifle all the birds stop singing and the bugs go quiet. If I had to choose one rifle to use the rest of my life I would choose this one and not feel bad about it.
