| Go ask a competent gunsmith and see what he says.....if he says you just run a reamer in it then you know he's not a competent smith! Out of curiosity.....was you told what velocity to expect?

| ![Roll Eyes](https://forums.accuratereloading.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif) I hunted with a 25-06 IMP for a number of years. If there was any gain you could not recognize it in the field. ![Eeker](https://forums.accuratereloading.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif) On simply running a reamer into an existing chamber, I've done this a number of times doing 8mm-06s but not all successful. One barrel, once fired, showed a witness mark where the neck of the 8x57 stopped. The mark was not concentric. Without a continuous piloted reamer you run the risk of an (EGG)centric chamber. Not having a whole lot of experience in this endeavor I don't know how severe the chamber run out can be. ![flame](http://www.accuratereloading.com/forums/flamethrower.gif) roger

| I had a 25-06 that wouldn't shoot and we talked about reaming it out but the gunsmith recommended rebarreling it. We put a stainless Hart barrel on it and chambered it in 25-06 Ack Imp and it shoots great. I chronoed the 100gr Sierra's at 3550mv. I have shot groups under .75" at 200yds with it. |

| Lloyd,
Contact Rob Canze at Williams Gun Sight in Davison, MI. Rob built my 280 AI that is a tack driver. He built a 30-06 AI for my buddy and now building the 25-06 AI. Rob is an exellent gun smith who knows how to fit the pipe and make it shoot. He builds a lot of AI too.

Properly done the barrel should be set back. The standard '06 go gauge becomes the no-go gauge for the Ackley. Brass should be a slight crush fit to fire-form. The minimum it should be set back is around .010" and if it has sights you'd need to set it back one full turn. |
