I'm useing 300 grains SMKs in my 'Edge, with 91 grains of H1000. Velocity is almost exactly 2800 fps. I've loaded hotter but found slightly better accuracy at 91, along with better brass life.

Friends with the same caliber ended up with the same powder and bullet, plus or minus a grain. The Berger seems to want to shoot too.

One thing about the H1000 load, changeing teperatures don't do much to the velocity. Some of the other options will drive you insane.

I shoot 265gr Barnes TTSX with 92.3gr of H1000. 5 shot groups under 1 inch at 350yds. I haven't tried the Bergers but the SMK's didn't shoot that well.

91grs of H-1000 is the load mine likes as well with 300gr SMK's. Mine hovers around 2800fps as well.

Mine is a real POS that won't shoot anything consistantly............I hate that rifle.

91 grains of H1000 locks the bolt?????

Best ( not great ) has been retumbo and 250g machkings.

That rifle would make a great tomatoe stake!

I nearly built one of these but decided against it, went with a 338wm instead. I'm just wondering, how much real world velocity improvement is there between the edge and the 338 RUM? Not just ballistic tables but actual chronographed loads?

Depends on barrel length. I cant speak for others, but my 338 edge has a 30in barrel. Most factory 338RUM are considerably less, probably 26in. I just chronographed some 300gr Berger's today with an average of 2961ft per sec. These rounds shoot great, .76in groups at 350yds.

What's your point?

I have several Remingtons that shoot great.

The action is bedded in a McMillan stock with a Krieger barrel.

Do you have any thing intelligent to add?

That's too bad JTEX. Mine has a Krieger 9.35 twist and it shot a .282" 4 shot group a couple weeks ago. It was built on a Remington action with the lugs lapped and no other truing done. A buddy of mine has built 4 or 5 of them with Krieger 9.35 twist barrels and every one was a 1/4 to 3/8" gun. He shot 89grs of H-1000 in his with the same velocity I'm getting with 91grs, 2800+fps.

Paitently waiting for my new 338 RUM 34" 3 groove Nitrided barreled Savage F class platform. Computer says 3000 fps with 300 Bergers. Strictly a long range gong ringer as hunting (IMO) is all about getting a close as you can, and 15 pounds is not a "walk about" rifle.
