I am thinking of getting the Mauser M03 in 9.3x62. Does anyone out there own one? Is it as goos as Mauser say it is? Heard any bad things abouth them? Had any problems with one? Do you think its value for money? Any comments would be appriciated. Thanks 451

Shooter451, here is my experience with the M-03. I was interested in a swap barrel rig, and having experienced satisfaction with the Sauer 202, I thought the M-03 might be great. At the time--about 18 months ago I was enamored with the WSM's and ordered a rig with a 270 WSM barrel and a 300 WSM barrel, the case and all. The first night I had my rig, I was fondling the stock/action without a barrel in it, and dropped it all of 2 feet onto my coffee table. It split the stock just forward of the magazine well. I was disappointed that the stock wouldn't take that lick and be OK, I have bumped many stocks much harder than that while afield, and I would have been toast if it was with that M-03. 20 weeks later I finally got a replacement stock out of Mauser/Sauer whatever, pitiful customer service. I still have the thing, brand new so to speak, and will trade sell the whole rig for 50 cents on the dollar or less! I haven't put a whole lot of effort into it, but I would trade it for a SAKO 85 of any kind, or even a 75 Grey Wolf, in a split second!!! Or a Kimber or a.....well you get the idea. It's a neat concept, but I would just say no! Regards--Don

Don, Does that mean that you haven't ever shot it, since the stock broke? And if you have shot it, how did it shoot? I don't own one, but have heard decent things about them. This is the first negative comment I've heard as far as I recall. I've also been told that they will soon be offering a synthetic stock, in addition to the wood stocked version.

Thanks for that Don... very interesting. I have never heard of a stock cracking like that, but also worringly how they treated you afterwards. Any more M03 owners out there with good/bad expeiances?

ErikD, I have indeed NOT shot it at all. I sent the stock/action and both magazines back the next day, and of course couldn't shoot it then--I was so concerned about the stock that when I finally got it back, I decided I wouldn't shoot it, as I wished to trade it---I haven't focused on getting it traded, as I have been extremely busy at work, but I still remain leary about the stock. Someone who is more knowledgeable than me might look at the thin portion of the stock forward of and surrounding the magazine well, and feel it was a fluke that it cracked as it did, but I'm not that skilled as a stock analyst--for Wall Street either. Take Care--Don
