a good original stock for his late father's M 721 Remington and has a quite limited budget.

Any suggestions as to where he might find one?

It does not need to be cherry, minor dings and total revarnishing he can deal with himself.

WELL... he has acquired a mesquite blank partially inletted for a 721 and is going to hack out a whole new stock for his dad's gun. A real surprise to me, but there it ends.

Thanks to those who tried to help him out.

Yes I do. Numrich has many, many 700 LA action stocks for sale. Fitting them in a 721 is easy.
You have to inlet for the sight boss, trim the wood next to the safe so it will clear, Open up the bolt handle cut a bit for the 721 handle, shim under the front of the floorplate(721 is thinner than 700). Sometime the barrel channel may need work depending on which 700 LA stock you pick. I've probably done a dozen 721/2s into 700 stocks. Sharp chisel, Dremel tool, some epoxy paste (the shim), Prussian blue and you're good to go. Just bought a Camo synthetic Ulta Mag SA
(300 SAUM) for under 90 bucks shipped to drop a 722 222 into. BBl channel is big so even the rear sight boss clears. If cosmetics mattered, I could always free float/glass bed the channel but it's just a working gun. Even has a spot for a medallion in the right side and I found a howling Yote bronze one to put in there.
One of the stocks they still have is a wood one that says 35 Whelen in the description:

Not cheap but a beautiful stock that I used on my 700 based 244 H&H. It is NOT the Classic model, much better looking.

Thank you metal beater. I'll copy your post and send it to him (keeping your ID off of it unless you want me to do differently). Do you know if they happen to have any original "beater" 721 stocks too? I think if he can he'd like to restore it to basically original.

Anyway, I am going to send him your info right now. Thanks again.

My country gal's just a moonshiner's daughter, but I love her still.

metalbeater is Larry Root and has been unceremoniously shitcanned from here inumerable times. The information he is providing is regurgitated horseshit he has managed to obtain from various web crawler search engines. DGR has been notified of his current presence and hopefully will be summarily drop-kicking his ass out of here. Again.
