With technological changes in bullets and cases what would you like to see in changes, or something new?

I'd like to see the 338-06 loaded by Federal, Remington, and even Winchester. I'd like to see Remington, Ruger, and Winchester chambering some rifles for it too.
I wish the 358Win. was more popular so as ammo wouldn't be so scarce (and expensive).
I wish Ruger would again chamber their little RSI carbines for the 7x57. Maybe even a few for the 6.5x55, though that would also be good in the 20" barreled ultra-light.

I'd like a RemSPS in 8mmRemMag. A 358Win in a Ruger stainless/synthetic and Mannlicher carbines.
Cheers...

That the old 8x65RS would become a standard cartridge again - with ammo, components, dies and factory rifles available.

That more factory ammo - and particular components would be available for the 8x64S

Barring any of the two above, that Blaser would chamber the R93 for the .338-06.

What I would REALLY like to see is a return by production gun makers in both Europe and the USA to the standards of quality in manufacture that existed in the 1950s. Current guns are largely crap and a comparison of a contemporary gun with even a Savage 99 from about 1955 is just sickening, to do so with a currently made Remchestuger against a Brno 21H, FN Supreme, Husqy HVA, or even a P-64 Mod. 70 is sad, just sad.

But, given the "War on guns" now being won against us throughout the British Commonwealth and in the States, I don't see this happening.

Yes its bad when a new rifle is viewed as a project gun. I am off the mind that there are really two markets, one is the Wally World, Kmart crap and the other is those of use who currently own rifles, we are willing to pay more but w certainly expect more. An example is Winchester in the model 70. A supergrade version that is done right, with a decent piece of wood, with a 60-75% premium in price would certainly interest me a lot more. And yes I know these are avaiable through the custom shop, I not talking special order, I want to walk into a dealer and see some. I don't buy sight unseen rifles anymore, way too much risk involved in getting a slog firearm, if I want to play the odds I will go to Las Vegas, not gamble on poor quality out of the manufacturers.

The really sad part Kutenay is I know the manufacturers are capable of doing this, it just isn't happening. And I think the gun rag writers just add fuel to this fire, I was reading a write up the other night on a 416 Rem, a old artical when they first introdcued the round and the 700 rifle.

The rifle was cycling the first round OK, but the second roound was ejecting and dumping on the ground. Yet it was the best thing since sliced bread? Confused

WTF who wants that in a dangerous game rifle? My thoughts were what a POS, yet other than a minor mention of it and Remington is fixing it, all was peachy.

Just makes me shake my head in disgust.

CZ's and Rugers in .338-06 would be a good start,as well as a Model 77 in 9.3x62, preferably with sights and rings.

I didn't know project guns counted.

My hit list for the year on medium bores is finsh my pre 64 model 70 project ( stockwork) I reckon around Aug.

Get moving on my old Banner FN mauser. Absolutly no expectations of getting it finished in 06, but having all the metal done so the stock part can get finished in early 07 is a nice thought.

And possibly pick up a lever gun, if the right rifle comes along.

Just one wish:

I hope that Horandy begins bonding its standard, lead-tipped Inter-Loct bullets between 6mm and .350, just as they do the Inter-Bond and their large-caliber (.375-.458) soft-point hunting bullets.

Ditto!! And for Remington to chamber the M700 Classic in 358 Win next year.

In my dreams Ruger would offer the No.1 Sporter in 300 H&H and 9.3x74R (and 405 Winchester while we're at it) with 26 inch - if not 28 inch - barrels, at least "better" grade wood, a fixed rear sight. [They'd also offer a five-shot Bisley Blackhawk in 480 Ruger with a 5-1/2 inch tube but this is the wrong forum for that.]

Add the 6.5-06 to that list

I'd like to second Schromf's thoughts. My aims for 06 are to finish the projects I started this year and begin the ones planned for next year - 7x57, 8x68s, and possibly an 8x60s too.

I don't really have any wants or desires for any particular new cartridge or new feature for any particular rifle. I have yet to be impressed with any new production quality and being as damned stubborn as I am about building the rifles I want...it'd be too bloody easy to simply go out and buy anything new. I second that.

If Ruger would announce they were chambering a 9.3 X 62, I would place my order today.

I can't believe that no one has asked for a nice new 30-06 on a new Mauser action yet. It is the round's centenary, guys! beer

Cheers and good hunting!

Very simply, more availability of rifles and ammo for the .338-06, 35 Whelen and (if you're in the States) the 9.3X62.

More factory loads for 35 whelen and 264 winchster magnum. Ruger and Winchster to chamber rifles for them. Kimber to chamber long actions on the 84m platform instead of the 8400. Just my opinion.

I'd love to see 'quality' US factory loaded ammunition for the following:

9.3x62mm
9.3x74mm
7mm and 8mm Mauser (loaded to their true potential)
404 Jeffery
45-90 WCF

Cheers,

My exact first thoughts when I saw this thread.

In fact one of my projects for next year is to buy a Remington Mtn rifle and put a 338-06 barrel on it.

My other wish would be for Remington to run one more year of Classics. In 30-06 Springfield 100th year anniversary edition of course. With a wood upgrade while their at it.

yah production guns from the fiftys are way better than the production guns of today . BUT production guns from before WW2 are pieces of art IMO . nothing really can compare to a pre-war M-70 winny a origanal mauser sporter or even remington 30 expresses .
I would like to se winchester do a run of 1895s in 30-06 . it would be nice if they did them in take down and case harding too .
