Gents!
I am introducing my uncle into the reloading "swamp" and I cannot find his rifle in the Sako manuals. I think that it has a 1 in 11" twist, as all other sakos seem to have.
The serial number starts with A II 341xxx and is made in the early eighties. Thats all I know about the gun.

The rifle is used primarily for moose and brownies in close quaters since he hunts with a dog.

I would like to be sure before ordering the heaviest bullets available. I am considering the 200-220gn woodleighs or Norma Oryx for him, but I am not certain that they will stabilize.

All help is appreciated!

Sincerely

Daniel

Use a cleaning rod with a tight patch on it. Measure how long it takes for the rod to make one full rotation, that will get you close enough to guess your twist. Easy peesy.

gents,
yes it is a 308win.
My computer got a hickup when posting and the caliber text in the headline fell off, and the first headline text reappeared after re-posting.

The rifle is 260km away from me right now, so I cant measure it. I am currently choosing bullet for it and I am leaning towards a woodleigh 220gn SN or a Norma Oryx 200gn. I would like a SD above .300 and velocity of 2200-2500fps.

I think it is a 11" twist and hope that it will stabilize the 220gn bullets nicely.

Sincerely

Daniel

the manual for you Sako should be on this site: http://www.sako.fi/old.php

Look in the back of the relevant manual and it will say.

I think all Sako/tikka barrels from that time were 1:11 but you'd better check mate.

Regards,

Gh
