A like new Tikka T-3 in 270 WSM followed me home a couple weeks ago. The story at the gunshop was it had only shot a couple boxes of shells but you were lucky if you could hit your hat @ 100 yds.I have several T-3s as well as some of the older Tikka's and found it hard to believe that rifle wouldn't shoot better than hat sized groups. Cleaned out the barrel, no copper fouling actually in good shape. Took the barreled action out of the stock and it appeared the barrel was rubbing hard on one side and was not touching at all on the other side. Put it back together and shot it. Sure enough ,hat sized groups. Went home took the stock off and relieved the material that was touching and made sure the action sat firmly on the recoil lug. Barrel is now free floating. Loaded up some 130 gr bullets with RL-19 and back to the range. Fired a few rounds and adjusted the scope then moved back to the 200 yd bench. First 3 shots were around 7/8 inch @ 200. Adjusted the scope a few clicks and fired a few more groups , all of them just under an inch. Thinking someone gave up on this rifle a little too soon.

That's a very capable rifle you have there. Have to love the T3 triggers, too.

I have no personal knowledge of the 270WSM, but my 308 just shoots very well. The guys on the New Zealand forum think very highly of this rifle!

I didn't really "need" this rifle but all the Tikka's I presently have are good shooters whether they be stainless or blued steel. As mentioned the 270 WSM is a capable calibre so whats not to like. The hardest part about working up the most accurate load in these rifles is just about every load shoots real well.

They are generally embarrassingly accurate.
