Just got it in today and I'm really pleased. I like the express sights and shot a 4 round mag full at a small plastic bottle at 25 yards with Prvi Partizan factory loads. Hit it every time. I will want to mount a cushier pad as the one on it doesn't have a lot of give. I haven't shot any of my big bores since my open heart surgery last year. I need to work back up to them. This will be a "stopper" for our feral hogs around here anyway. Gpopper

This sounds like a nice gun. I love those sights on the rugers. WOODY Everyone is allowed an opinion, even if its wrong.

Nice one, and I agree that the Rugers have great iron sights. I only recently saw that Roger offer this chambering in their Hawkeye African, and I've got to say that it makes a great deal of sense for them to do so. How about posting some pictures please?

Sorry I can't post pics. If you have seen pics of any Hawkeye Africans, you've seen them all I reckon. They have made minor changes from the first ones out. They dropped the matte finish for something they call satin. To me it just looks blued. It does have a barrel band front sling stud which I like and think looks classy. I like a matte finish but some versions are quick to turn to rust. Gpopper

one of the smartest things they have done lately! Really great cartridge, and a nicely styled stock. Rich

Well they busted my balls I spent a year+ looking for the just right Ruger Safari 30-06, picked up a drop dead gorgeous one. Sent her to Clearwater & had her bored and worked over into 9.3X62. She's now a mini DG rifle with Qtr. rib and all.. Pure Sweetness.. & just months later Ruger comes out with a Plug-n-Play 9.3X62 MopaneMike

Does the barrel have the "see instruction manual before using" lawyer stamp on it?
|

Yep, it's got the lawyer warning on the barrel, but they must not have let one of them dry fire one. The trigger pull is sweet and much better than I have come to expect on an over the counter rifle after buying rifles over the last several decades. Gpopper

Probably my next rifle, I have Alaskans in 375 and 416 and the iron sights are exceptional. "The difference between adventure and disaster is preparation." "The problem with quoting info from the internet is that you can never be sure it is accurate" Abraham Lincoln

Belt sanders work wonders on those barrel stamps.

I wonder if the Custom Shop would give you a barrel without the warnings if you signed a waiver that said you wouldn't sue them for something stupid?

Ooop's my bad... I called my Ruger 30-06/9.3X62 a Safari model.. I've been reminded it's their Express Model.. MopaneMike

Those Ruger Expresses are impressive looking rifles. I never could understand one in .270. An ought 6 with express sights I could see, but the .270 just has to have a scope. JMHO Gpopper

Mike: I was about a year and 1 1/2 behind you in the same project however, I caught wind that Ruger was bringing out the 9.3's and I put the breaks on. Jim Dubell is pretty backed up right now and I think I could make myself pretty happy with an off the shelf Ruger African. Yes, I agree the Express looks great since I own one in 7mm mag but I estimated the express conversion costing 2k plus worth it but a longer wait. Brad

Mmm.... No... As I recall, mine was -$1k but not by much.. But factor in cost of the rifle.. I'm in about $2.2k MopaneMike

Hmm, I have been playing with the idea of a buffalo capable rifle as backup to me 404j. The 375h&h is a fine round, but the 9,3 is pretty good too & maybe just a bit more NA user friendly. LIFE IS NOT A SPECTATOR'S SPORT!

MopaneMike: I think our math is close since I have seen a couple of 30-06 Expresses listed recently for $1200. So Yes, $2200 for a nice looking Ruger 9.3x62 is still a good deal. Brad

Yessir, I just bought a Ruger Hawkeye African in a .338 because it was the only caliber I could find locally...I love this little slim and trim gun with all the african goodies on it, and you can bet a 9.3x62 will adron my wall within the year, and maybe a .375 also..They are impressive.
