Anyone load this bullet? What kind of velocities did you get and with what powder?

Have you taken game with this load and what kind of results did you get?

This bullet is what we hope to have loaded for my father's 06. It may be used on Moose, Sheep, elk and possibly Griz.

Hey boilerroom (that's what Houston felt like today)

This load turned out to be the most accurate in my Sauer lighweight 30-06. That gun would not shoot anything else very well but it would shoot the 200 gr AB's into an inch 90% of the time. I used 59.5 gr RL22 in Norma brass with a Fed 215M primer seated .015" off the lands. MV at 15' was just a little over 2600 fps. Not fast but still carried a lot more energy than any other bullet, 2300 fpe at 300 yards. Drops only 46" at 500 yards (200 yd zero) which is not a flat shooter but not that bad either.

I think it will depend upon your gun and the twist you have. Oddly enough, when I tried to shoot the 200 gr TSX, it would not stabilize and would keyhole.

This load does not seem to be maxed out and I did not look for a load with more velocity because at that speed it fit the TDS reticle in the Kahles scope to a tee. It might be hard to get much more powder in a case because of the length of the bullet, but you might think about RL19 or H4831 to get more velocity with the same amount of powder.

I made a mistake on this post!

I went to type in 168 gr TSX, saw a drop down in the title from me naming a thread on another forum and accidently hit the drop down for this bullet instead. animal

I will open a new thread. Thanks for your respons though, I am working with the 200 AB too and in fact I have a thread for it floating around somewhere.

IMO

If you "need" to launch 200gr bullets
then
You NEED to launch them from a 338mag.

Actually, a 300 win mag is much better with 200 gr bullets than a 338 win mag. My 338 shoots 225 gr TSX and I am working on a load with 200 gr Accubonds in my 300 win mag that will have more energy, more sectional density and of course flatter trajectory than the 338 win mag with 225 gr bullets.

But lets take a look at 30-06 bullets. I look at energy at 300 yards, cause that's where some calibers start to really drop off. Also, how about we look at drop & wind drift at 500 yds:

30-06 zero @ 200 yds: bullet / fps / energy @ 300 yds / drop @ 500 yds / wind drift @ 500 yds

168 gr TSX / 3000 fps / 2233 fpe / 38" / 17"
180 gr TSX / 2850 fps / 2272 fpe / 41" / 15"
200 gr AB / 2700 fps / 2299 fpe / 45" / 15"

Now the 200 gr is right in there with the best of them and my back up gun for last year's Elk hunt was a 30-06 with the 200 gr Accubond. If the shot had come with the 30-06 rather than the 300 win mag, I would have had every confidence that it would have done the job.

Especially with the 200 gr bullet.
