Looking for a decent quality hard case big enough for two scopped rifles. I don't need airline quality or want anything too bulky or heavy. I am tired of these cheap plastic cases. Thanks

I have a 2 gun Aluminum case with welded seams that I got from Cabela's or Sportsmans Warehouse that is very tough. Its well made and they are under $200 like maybe $150 or so. I'd take it on a trip through airlines with no second thoughts.

Of the cases I have, the Strong Case is my favorite because not only is it well made but it has wheels. Strong Case I also have an aluminum case made of aluminum from Cabela's which is excellent and holds 4 rifles, a Pelican case I use for transporting handguns and an SKG case and those are all excellent as well.

I got my Pelican case for just over $200. It holds two scoped rifles and has wheels as well. Regards, Chuck "There's a saying in prize fighting, everyone's got a plan until they get hit" Michael Douglas "The Ghost And The Darkness"

I really like the Storm cases, Storm is owned by Pelican. MHO the Storm cases have much better latches than the Pelicans. ----------------------------------------------------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, or you yourself will be just like him. I own an skb double rifle case. It's very good, but I'll be purchasing a pelican for future use. They appear to be just that much better. Regards, Robert ****************************** H4350! It stays crunchy in milk longer!

What about the Tuffpak? I've heard good things about it, including that it is sturdy and dos not look like a gun case. Here's more: Tough plastic tubular (octagonal, not round) case with slip-on end cap. End cap secures with polypropylene strap and buckle, and includes a lock. For use with soft gun cases - case your guns and slide them in. Pad with clothing or whatever. Original Tuffpak holds up to three scoped rifles or five shotguns, or many different combinations. Five sizes available at press time, including two for bows and one for takedown guns. All models have protected wheels and integral handles. Weighs less than other airline-approved gun cases, holds as much as you can cram into it. Originally designed for movie camera tripods, the Tuffpak doesn't look like a gun case. Tuffpak duffels are available as saddlebags, liners, or carry-on baggage. Guaranteed for life. Guide Review - Tuffpak Gun Case - Practical and Tough The Tuffpak is one tough case. While I haven't used it to transport my guns on an airline, I don't doubt that it will work fine. I do wonder about the polypropylene strap that secures it, but it is in a recessed portion of the case and shouldn't be exposed to too much wear. The key lock seems adequate, and breaking into a Tuffpak seems like it would be at least as hard as getting into any other standard airline-approved gun case, and maybe harder. Made by Nalpak of El Cajon, CA, this is basically a motion-picture tripod case. For that reason, it is often recognized as such by baggage handlers, some of whom might be inclined to "lose" a gun case, for whatever reason. And it gives the added benefit of being able to move easily through an airport, wheeling along a case that many will assume holds nothing more dangerous than golf clubs. I like the heavy gauge aluminum one from Cabelas. It is welded with clipped corners and wheels. With custom inserts it seems to me to protect best. Prior to it I used a Browning TravelVault with custom inserts and then an SKB with the two sides. I liked the SKB least of all.The Browning was indestructable but heavy and had no wheels. I think the older I got the further you had to carry the case around the various airports and the heavier the cases got. Finally settled on the aluminum case and used it for my last two trips to Zimbabwe. SCI Life Member NRA Patron Life Member DRSS

I have the Browning gun vault, which is a plasitic case with wheels made by Pelican. It is very sturdy, but a bit bulky and heavy. Definitely not a cheap plasitc case! I think it is no longer made....so Pelican gets my vote. Cheers, Dan

I have an aluminum case made by an indian tribe in eastern Washington. It holds two scoped rifles and has three metal hasps made to each take a padlock. I used it in 1978 to take my rifles to New Zealand and back to Canada in 1979. I watched as the anti-gunners at Vancouver International Airport threw it over the rail from the mezzanine (sp?) floor onto the concrete floor one story below., nd then again as they stood outside the airliner and literally threw it into the cargo bay. My guns survived unmarked and I shot them for a month in matches in New Zealand before returning home. I am still using it as my primo travel gun case. It cost me over $200 in 1978, but has been well worth it. As a general rule, when it comes to stuff to protect guns, I say "Buy the best and only cry once".

Have you guy's used one of the Pelican cases with the new 2 stage latches? I'm not saying they are better because I've never used a Storm case but they are pretty nice. I use a Pelican 1640 everyday on my job. It's a really nice case.
