You should try the .270 WSM without a doubt. I had rifles from .22's up to .416 Rigby particularly heavy in the middle range mags because of my Elk hunting each year. I got the .270 WSM and have had more fun shooting it than anything I have had in years. 130 grain bullets at 3400 plus fps and 150 grain bullets at 3160 fps will match or beat a lot of other chamberings. Try it, you will see what I like about it. Good luck and good shooting.

I have several from 22's to 375 H&H .
I love my 7mm Rem mags Period !.
I also like .30 cal because of versatility of bullets . Nothing wrong with .270 or 6.5 or just about any other weapon , I would lean toward the .300 myself !.

+1 for the .300 WSM based solely on the wider range of bullets.

+2 for .300 wsm Wide range of bullets and weights, and 30 cal is great for most game.

Ihave a 270 WSM now and i love it. I have killed 4 elk with it and 6 deer. I thought about getting a 300 WSM and have almost payed for one but everything i have shot with the 270 has dropped and I just keep putting the 300 off. Instead I have bought a 357 and a 9mm pistols. Good luck in your decision.

My deer/elk rifles are set for only one bullet weight and if I decided to use that rifle for antelope I'd shoot the same bullet. For me the versatiliy of the 30 cal bullets doesn't mean much. I'm shooting a 168gr TSX in my 300WSM.

I just started shooting a 270WSM and that is one nice caliber easy on the shoulder and I plan on using it for elk this year the deer/antelope draws aren't out yet. I'm pretty lucky in that if I hunt with the 270WSM the 300WSM be my back up rifle. So far the 150gr partition has shot pretty good in the 270WSM and I'm getting to like the 270WSM alittle more than the 300WSM.

PC,

My 2 cents: Those 4 cover and overlap pretty well!

Think you already know that neither is really "needed". But why must we "need" a new rifle - Want one or the other should be good enough. Guess if I had those 4, I'd look to add a 22LR, or a short light carry around 260 or 308 bolt action, maybe even a lever action 35 rem. But, If you want either the 270 or 300 WSM - GO FOR IT.

I'd take the .300 WSM myself. I just flipped a coin, heads it was, .300 WSM it is (in my head, anyways).

Definately the 300 WSM. It will easily do 130 TSX @ 3500fps and 180s at just under 3000fps. Definatley more versatile in my eyes.

They are both versatile. In fact, both are so versatile, I'd bet you wouldn't bother trying everything available in either. There's no need, as both are excellent choices. Most hunters pick one or 2 bullets/weights, and start loading. To me, the versatility aspect gets rather old.

FWIW, I just ordered and received an in-stock Lilja #3 contour, 3 groove SS preturned blank with the intent on building a 270 WSM. He has 30 caliber bbls in stock ready to ship, and I considered a 300 SAUM (since I already have dies), and the 300 WSM. I chose the 270 since that is my favorite diameter for most all hunting I do.

To each his own. You can't possibly go wrong with either.
