Ran across a pre-war civilian Mauser in 8x57IRS yesterday in astounding condition. Numbers match, scope is Hertel and Reuss 3-10x46 on claw mounts, barrel is octagonal to round and in super condition in and out, horn butt plate (original??), and the bolt face looks unused. Really remarkable condition. Belongs to a retiree, a friend of a relative so I need to know what is fair for this gun. This was a wartime bring back that I doubt was ever used. Info appreciated

There are a lot ov variables with the prewar commercial Mausers? It shouldn't be chambered for the rimmed 8X57 though.

Is it a real Mauser Oberndorf sporter, or a converted military Mauser made by another maker or a private smith? The price difference is about ten times different. A pic would be nice. Germany was not allowed to make 8x57s after WW1 so it will pre-date that.
