Has anyone out there been able to obtain and load
up some of the new Speer Deep Shok bullets in 7mm
160 grain yet? They were supposed to be out by
mid June of this year and all dealers I have contacted say they are on the way. This looks like
a premium bullet at standard prices but Speer has
been dragging their feet on this for some reason.
If anybody knows where I can get some of these I
would appreciate the info! Thanks...BLR7

your a bit behind on the times perhaps, I think they have droped it from production in some calibers, perhaps all and have gone to premiums...It was a good conventional bullet..I used them and liked them...

Ray,

The Speer Deep-Shoks are back in production. Admittedly, they have been somewhat of a "mystery" bullet the last couple of years as far as availability. I purchased 5 boxes of 165gr .308" Deep-Shoks not too long ago. So far I've seen 165gr and 180gr .30 caliber in some stores locally and online. Speer probably started their production runs with those weights. (i.e. Popular weight and caliber.)

Here's a message thread about it:

I think the Deep-Shoks got caught up in the purchase of Speer by ATK. Production was probably suspended until ATK sorted out the product line, etc. after acquiring the business. Anyway, the Deep-Shoks appear to be back. My 5 boxes of Deep-Shoks have the ATK logo on them. That would indicate that they were produced after the purchase of Speer by ATK.

BTW: Here's the ballistic coefficients for the .30 caliber Deep-Shoks:

The BC for the 165gr 0.308" Deep Shok is 0.443. For the 180gr it is 0.508.

Thanks for the replies. I am calling Speer rep
in the morning to see if I can get to the bottom of this. I have some hunts coming up in a couple of months and I want time to work up a load. If
production has been halted, the dealers don't seem
to know about it. Speer has a brand new webb site
and on it they list the Deep-shoks as if it is
available. If I get some new info I'll post it on
here tomorrow! BLR7.

The Speer Deep Shok line of bullets has been
discontinued according to Guy Neil technical
rep for Speer. What a shame to drop such a
promising bullet line. Sorry but that is the
bottom line. BLR7

I hope they don't discontinue them, they were a great bullet when Federal was using them..I really liked them on deer size game...and I suspect they worked on larger stuff..

I was at the Carter Country Store on the Katy Freeway today and they had five boxes of .30 caliber on hand. I don't remember if they were 165 or 180 grain though. Who knows they may have more in the back or some at the other three stores. Give them a call if you are interested.
