I just bought this winchester model 64, 30-30 win and would like some info on it. It is serial # 1888xxx. I think it is a Delux model, but I'm not sure. The front sling swivel does not look like the delux models I've been able to find on - line, and it doesn't have a gripcap. However the stocks are checkered and the forend seems to be shaped like the delux. I would like to know the year of manufacture, approx value and whether or not this is a delux model if anyone knows. It would be a 95% gun in my opinion except someone added a recoil pad. Good Shooting, Weagle

From the data I have on hand, it looks like your rifle was made either in late 1952 or early 1953. Regarding the front sling attachments, that isn,t the same as on my Deluxe 64. I'm thinking that what you have is a Standard version that someone has replaced the original wood with wood from a Deluxe rifle, or had it checkered with the Deluxe patten. If the stock has been only lengthened by that recoil pad, you might be able to find a replacement buttplate and restore that portion of the gun. I have both the Deluxe and a Standard M64 in 30-30, and they are both favorites. I checked the length of pull front the front of the trigger to the face of the buttplate on both my rifles, and it is 13 inches. If yours is longer than that by the thickness of the pad, you might be able to restore it to originality, at least as far as the butt stock goes. Paul B.

Thanks for the info. It looks like I can restore the butt stock to a reasonable configuration. If it was cut it wasn't much as the measurement is within 1/4 inch of yours. I think it will look better a quarter inch short rather than with the rubber recoil pad. Is the pad on yours metal or plastic? Thanks, Weagle

This http://armscollectors.com/sn/winlookup.php?file=winxx64.dat says its a 1951. A 1/2" pacmyer solid black pad would look better than that white line pad Cool rifle ! !

Here's a picture of my 64. It looks like your butt stock may be a bit bigger but then it could be just the picture angle. Mine is not the delux so it never had any sling swivels. Age wise there are similar with my SN showing a mfg. date of 1951 also. The pictures I have of the delux model show the front sling swivel to be part of the forend cap, not a barrel band like yours. Great guns, great shooters

Thanks, Do you know if the holes for the receiver sight are factory or were they added? I'm looking for a metal butt plate for mine and I am going to remove the receiver sight and put filler screws in the holes. Weagle

It appears your gun is a std. model that has been probably refinished and checkered and had the pad added... The swivel on a deluxe is a hole in the forend cap for a QR swivel, yours is an Uncle Mikes or knock off type.. Your gun has been drilled and tapped for the Receiver sight and still has the original rear sight on the barrel, which is the correct sight for your gun.... Basically you cannot return your gun to original or even near original and besides near original doesn't count for beans to a collector, but it is certainly a very nice shooter and I would just take out the barrel rear sight and shoot it with the Receiver sight as it is and enjoy the heck out of it..neat old gun, but no collector.
