Was looking at ptg reamers site and found a tight base 9.3x66 reamer new for $25.00, not one to pass up a bargain ordered w/ headspace gauge. ITD in Ohio will turn a #3 Douglas barrel for $154.00. Coolest part is the datum base of reamer measures .470", Perfect use for more of my 280 rem brass, just a bit short in the neck. Does anyone have a piece of 9.3x66 or 370 sako brass they could measure ahead of extractor groove for me? thanks

As often is the case drawings and reality sometimes do differ. It won't bother me at all to use 280 brass, was just wondering if the tight base of the reamer would allow the use of real 9.3x66 brass. Also if anyone actually owns a rifle in this caliber any fav loads? Will probably use250 accubonds and 285 partitions. Thanks

Factory Sako’ 9.3x66mm ammunition is manufactured with correctly dimensioned brass whose base diameter is greater than .470” so it will not fit within a properly cut chamber using your tight based reamer. I’ve no idea if Federal is actually using the correctly dimensioned brass for its US equivalent cartridge, the 370 Sako Magnum, or if they’re using 30-06 based brass just as most US manufacturers do for their 9.3x62mm brass. Nothing is what it says. My original 9.3 x 66m is on a switch barrel AV Sako rig. Make sure you have both barrels index points where they belong. You can get the real deal cases from Reimar Johannsen in der faderland. Anneal correctly every fifth time down the tube. Howell makes slightly oversized 30-06 basic cases. I made up one hundred and a bunch of change. Send me your snail mail address and I will send three unfired cases. This cartridge is hurting in the internal capacity department. If you are going hunting with this rig, take a pass on reaming with an undersized reamer. About fifteen were made three to four years ago. They have been nothing but trouble. I use the Howell cases just for practice. Buy 100 - 120 to be loaded with "The righteous load".) Use the extra twenty to work up your load with factory cases. Don't go cheap at the beginning; Sako brass is good stuff, use it. They will make more of it. Use the CORRECT reamer. I got mine from Dave Kiff at PT&G. Sako lists their factory loads on their brochures and catalogues. The VV-N500 series of powders are all double base; so, store it in cool (20 Celcius/69, Farenheit) moderate relative humidity (50%). After your safari/extreme conditions hunt; all the cartridges you took go into the practice bin. This cartridge does not need extra speed. Right now it will go all the way through any mammal in Africa if you are patient for a good shot. Redding die sets are very good in this particular application. LD PS I'll send copies of correspondence between Erki Kaupi, chief of ballistics at Lapua, and myself. PO Box 907 Homedale, Idaho 83628 johnnoak@cableone.net
