I own the same rifle..................wether you like it or not I am going to speculate and say you will get between 700-1000 rounds (depending on cleaning and how fast you shoot between shots) I would not worry about it and look at it as an oppurtunity to piss off the cheap poverty barrel that Rem would be using and put on a nice Maddco, Shillen or Hart barrel when that tube is torched. I have around 150 rounds through mine so far and the throat still looks fine. Originally I was using 150 gr Nos BT's and tehy shoot like lasers but expand far to easily if you happened to want to shoot something bigger so I now use the Nos 200 gr Accubonds, rifle has a Leupold Mark 4 6.5-20x50 in Badger rings and bases and also has a Canjar trigger, they shoot really well and you will be happy with yours no doubt. Let us know what load your are using. Off the top of my head I am using 88 gr of AR2225, Rem case Fed 215M gold primer and the 200 gr Nos AB seated just off the lands.

Joughin, one of my hunting partners has one, it is a Sako M-75. He has approximately 600 rounds through his and my borescope shows everything looks fine. The throat has not eroded measurably at all, he is very diligent about cleaning after every range session, and 'minor' cleaning during the range sessions after every 15 or so rounds. The Barrel looks really good, and he has not seen accuracy reduced at all at this point. He shot about 60-80 rounds of factory fodder through it, and the rest have been handloads, he uses some Reloader, I'm not sure which, but I think 25??, and the other load he uses with 200 grainers is with H 4831 SC. Hope this is helpful, good luck with your rig.

Hi all thanks for the feedback. 180gr Ballistic silvertips, federal 215 match primers and ar2225. I've worked up my loads with the ar2225 from 94gr to 100gr and found the 100gr load to be the most accurate and the velocity between the rounds to be the most consistent. I've been getting great accuracy with the 100gr load, the average being 1/2 inch 3 shot groups at 100m. I'm putting the rifle into the shop next week to get a vais muzzle brake put on it which will make it more pleasant to shoot. After thirty or so rounds it's pack up and go home as my accuracy starts to fade. Still it isn't as bad as my 458lott off the bench oww. I've been wanting to try the 200gr accubonds as their bc is higher but I could only get 180 bst when I got the rifle and still have plenty of those left to use first. Planning on purchasing a new MK4 soon as I have the fixed power 16x at the moment and want an adjustable, thinking 8.5-25x50 mk4 but pondering on the 6.5-20x50. I don't mind speculation as long as it's not fanciful.....

Hi pc, How do find the mk4 variables? Do you find the 6.5-20x50 has enough magnification or do you think you would go with the 8.5-25x50 if you could choose again?

Joughin, For the .300 RUM I would choose the 6.5-20x50 again.....just because it is a big game caliber and if you do happen to be walking around with it it has a bit better field of view on 6.5x for a close in running shot, I have a 8.5-25 VX111 on my .243 and to be honest it rarely goes over 14-18. The Mk 4 is a nice scope, is it worth the money over the VX111 I am not sure. at 20x for pigs etc. out at 300 yards the look massive and it is more than enough magnification, the couple of times I went spotlighting with it I had it on 8x or 12 x, so in summing up if I had my time over I would get the 6.5-20 again and maybe rather than the mil dot MK4 might have got the VX 111 6.5-20 with the Varmint Hunter Reticle which is the reticle I have on my .243 scope, much better for shooting vermin I reckon.

Depends on how you shoot it, you run a bunch of rounds through it in a hurry and it will burn out in 500 rounds. I had an aquatence that hunted rock chucks with one and he replaced barrels several times. For its intended use of hunting big game and a few sight in sessions allowing it to cool down, it should last you a lifetime.
