I like the Heym, but there's no way I would buy one now.

Maybe I mean, "There's no way I could buy one."

I tried several places to buy a new or used SR20, and got no responses.
- I tried a Gunbroker ad in which the last update was two years previously - no response.
- I tried New England Custom Gun, asked the guy some questions; he went off to the "other building" to get the answers, and 10 days later still hadn't called me back.
- I called an importer in WV - PSI, IIRC - and got a call back maybe a month later. He explained that it was as much trouble to sell a $30k double rifle as a bolt rifle, so he didn't put much effort into the latter. He did have a nice bolt rifle set aside, so he'd send me some pics. I've never heard anything else from him.
- I then emailed the factory in Germany, asking where in the US I could find some to purchase. I heard nothing from them, either.

I'm not much on omens, but it seems to me that Heym isn't in the cards for me. If the rifle is that hard to buy, can you imagine the trouble getting it fixed or getting a part? That's it for me...

Is stocked in most shops here around. Their rifles are popular and common. Am sorry that your email was not answered by Heym: that is not good style, indeed.

What exactly are you looking for?? If it was not because prices here in Europe are mostly quite a bit higher than in the US, I would have suggested looking into doing a personal import.

I don't have any current prices, but the last Frankonia catalog I have at hand, which listed the Heyms, had an SR20N (this is the regular bolt action) for DM 2600 - that is approximately Euro 1300. I'm guessing current prices would be somewhat higher, 2000-2200 Euro, say??

If we knew exactly what you are looking for, it would certainly be possible to price it for you - although, again I have to warn you, that European prices are often higher than prices in the US ...

Note that prices in French catalogs include French V.A.T. If you export you can be refunded the V.A.T. which is almost 20%.

There is no doubt to me that they're fine rifles. I merely became fed up with trying - and failing - to buy one.

Kurt, I'm buying what you're selling. If it's that hard to obtain, there must be some omen. It would be a nightmare to get parts for sure if that became and issue.

Having said that, I find that having parts from the factroy for a good solid bolt action is a pretty rare ocassion for me. Nonetheless, I would go after something more 'available'.

Good Luck--Don

I have a .375 H&H Mauser 3000 Left hand. These were made by Heym for Mauser in the early 70's. It's a push feed. How do these compare to regular Heyms? It's a nice rifle, but they are a fraction of the price of a true Heym. I have to assume they are a lesser grade.

Balance.

I've handled one in 300 Win Mag - which caliber I didn't want. I just happened to have my scale with me and weighed it and a comparison Sako M75 - the Heym weighed 7#-14oz, and the Sako 7#12oz. I tested all the hangers-on customers ("Available everywhere!") to guess the respective weights.

Every one of them guessed the Heym weighed 6 to 8 oz less than the lighter Sako - the Heym was that much better balanced.
