I agree with your thinking on trading the Weatherby for a 338. I also think Bear in Fairbanks was right on sighting in at +3.0" at 100 yards. My own preferences for bullets are 230 gr Failsafe or 250 gr A-frame. Sounds like a good all around battery.

The .338 is my all time favorite caliber..A 300 gr. woodliegh at 2450 FPS and a 210 Nosler at 3000 FPS will cover the whole hunting scene for any big game..I have shot most all game from Rock Chucks to Cape Buffalo with it and never has it let me down...

However in your position, the difference in a 300 Wby and a 338 is miniscule at best..A 220 gr. bullet out of a 300 Wby is a hammer indeed and as good as a 250 gr. 338 in the real world.....

I honestly think Allans right, your just spinning your wheels, but if that makes you grin and fills you with uphoria then by all means knock yourself out, a new gun is always a good way to brighten ones day.
