I just bought 4 Czech 98/22's for $246 shipped, all had very good to excellent bores. I can get a stock for $60, d&t bend bolt is free, as I can do it myself. Even if the M98 cost twice the Remington, it's the better rifle!

Isn't it a pity that the Remington Model 30 has never been made in 8x57 IS ? Now that would have been a REAL classic rifle (or, yet supreme, the august Model 720)...
