Well just got bit by one of those deals to good to be true. I'm soon to be the owner of a Husqvarna 9.3x57 on a 98 action. At the moment I have no experience with that cartridge. I know the 9.3x57 was loaded to around 40,600PSI and the 9.3x62 was loaded to 55,000+/-. On a 98 action I see no reason why they both couldn't be loaded to the same pressure or even to the 60,000 area. If so then using a 1 for 4 that would mean the 9.3x57 would only give up around 5% velocity to the larger case or around 100-125FPS. The deal comes with several boxes of Norma factory ammo. The rifle needs to be refinished. So I have the option to keep it as a 9.3x57 or rechamber it to 9.3x62 and sell the ammo. I don't know that the slight velocity gain is worth it but I would think the future value would be better as a 9.3x62. Thoughts??? As usual just my $.02 Paul K

The performance gain may be no big deal but it won't hurt and a 9.3x62 is going to be much easier to feed.

I´ll give you a reason, brass dimensions and as a final say, need. A x57 will shoot the 286 grains at just perfect speed for up to 120 yards shots at all game, cup and core bullets performe perfectly and you can shoot faster than with a bigger gun. Best regards Chris

Ramrod I have 3 146s , one I got someone(bubba jerk) tryed to rechamber it to X62 before I got it and ruined the chamber. So now I have one m146 with a 9.3x62 chamber with "ridges" in it. I might have it set back one thread and rechambered again if it will clean the botched rechamber job. That said my other two Im going to keep 9.3x57. I like it. Its a nice cartrige and is easy to reload for, I use winchester 8mm brass and hornaday 9.3x57 dies. Been useing IMR 4895

ramrod340 I would definately leave it as a 9,3x57. In the Lower 48, the Speer 270 bullet would be an excellent choice. I base this on the use of the Speer 270 bullet on deer and wild pigs, one pig over 300 lbs, in my 9,3x74R. If more penetration isthought to be needed, the 286gr Nosler Partition, or the 286gr Woodleigh Soft would fit the bill.... But at 9,3x57 velocities the 270 Speer will do all that is required. I would leave it a X57, Ive had three and kept one , one was also a bubba rechambered X62 that left a ring on the brass, try it first as a 57, I'm sure you'll like it. Anyways the Privi Partisan 286 gr with H335 at factory velocities (2070 fps) is what I load it to and its a joy to shoot, accurate and a lot of fun to carry in the woods. I would recomend the timney trigger though.

Thanks guys for all your comments. Yesterday morning I was leaning towards keeping it at a 9.3x57. The UPS finalized it for me last night. They delivered my new 380PDK dies. So with a new rifle to work up loads for with a slightly larger case firing a .375 bullet at the current time I see no reason to go to the expense of a rechamber. The issue of a ringed chamber also makes me hesitate. Since the rifle comes with 69rds of factory ammo and some brass for now it will remain a 9.3x57. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

Enjoy what the Swedes call the "potato chucker" Norma 232gr bullets (oryx or vulkan) are great in this calibre.

ramrod340 Good choice leaving it as a 9,3x57. Give the Speer 270gr bullets a try. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY
