Things went very well today at the range with my new Remington 700SPS today. Used the first ten shots to get sighted in close and to clean between each shot for break it. Rifle was on paper and shooting well right from the first shot. Once the first ten shots were shot I started with 60 grains of H4831SC and 140 grain Nosler BT's. 2 out of three shots cut holes and one was about two inches off. 60.5 grains put two cutting and one off for a 3/4 inch group. 61 grains made a nice 1/2 triangle. Last group of 61.5 was two cutting and one off for another 3/4 inch group. I was cleaning between every 3 shot group. I needed to get home so I did not get to try the 61.5 or 62 grain loads but so far I am very happy. This was also without any adjustment to the factory trigger. Just right out of the box, cleaned well and scope mounted. Plus some work on the mag box so it would feed. Molon Labe New account for Jacobite

I have never owned a 270 WSM or any WSM caliber as I have all those on the 06 case, but I have always felt a need for a 270 WSM, probably one of these days I will satisfy that need..However I use very nearly the same load in my .270. Ray, Had I been able to find a decent .270 Win for what I paid for this WSM I would have got it. Actually I pretty much deal at one shop because they give me a great lay away plan. This was new but several years old and they gave me a good deal to get it out of the store. I have been looking for a bad weather long range (out to 500 yards) rifle for deer. I wanted the rifle to also not be a heavy recoiling gun. I was actually thinking of building a 6.5-284 but this was cheaper and faster to get. Molon Labe New account for Jacobite

Don, I think you made a great choice..I know some avid deer and elk hunters who have used the 270 WCF for years and went to the 270WSM, and they claim it's thunder and Lightening..Craig Boddington loves it and says its a better long range caliber than the std .270 and Craig has a world of experience and knowledge in the hunting field...I have been wanting one, to me it seems to be and improved .270 without all the noise and recoil of the Wby and its ilk...
