I recently picked up a chilean mauser at a gun show, I ran 2 rounds through the gun . Each time I tried to move the bolt action it was tighter than hell.Once I was able to break the bolt free the shell would eject smooth as silk . Any ideas as to what is up? My father in law and me were thinking along the lines of head space issues

It may be headspace issues or damage on the locking lugs.

Is it only on extraction or chambering as well ?

Could be a bit of rust build up in the chamber 'jamming the cartridge'. I had this recently with a Famage 98 .30-06. Get a 12 ga Shottie wire cleaning brush and give the chamber a good scrub.

I suspect lug setback!

Are you using reloads or factory ammo? Maybe they are a bit too hot for that particular rifle.

Put some "Slickum" on the aft side of the Locking Lugs - and eat some Wheaties!

the problem is only on extraction and I have only used factory loads ( 150 gr federal)

A .308 1916 Mauser developed the same problem with reasonable loads and no case pressure signs. Believe it was set back. roger

update:I took it to a gunsmith to check the head space.It was good.He took out the bolt and held the gun at an angle and put a light down the barrel. There was the problem. When I cleaned the rifle the first time, I missed some rust down in the throat area. Once I saw that,the gun came home and was dis-assembled again and thoroughly cleaned. The bolt action works like new.
