Hello! I'm from Indonesia, Would like to know how tight was your groupings (off the bench) overthere?... Even many limitations i had here, i also love something we called "accuracy"... Say in 100yards (or meters), 200, 300, 600yards, or so... What rifle/action/trigger/barrel/cal. did you use, scope, ammo/load/bullet, etc....and how many shots? Many thanks in advance. Best Regards, Sebastian.

Hey Sebastian, What can you tell me about Pindad ammunition? I've got the chance to buy 3200 rounds of it in 7.62 nato. It's made in Indonesia so maybe you know something about it.

For a standard-weight bolt action rifle in a "hunting" caliber, three shots in 1" at 100 yards is excellent, and although some will do better, most people are happy with 1.5" groups. A good "varmint" rifle in one of the .22 or 6mm centerfire calibers using a 10X or higher scope should be able to do close to .5" for five shots, although an occassional flier due to wind or mirage makes this a fairly tough standard. Very few levers, pumps, or automatics will do better than 2" at 100 yards, with some much worse. Some, like the Browning BAR and tuned AR-15 clones can do somewhat better.

quote:Hello Pumkinheaver! I'm surprised with the Pindad ammo in your hand in Missouri! . I just use them for my practice shooting, not more. For a shooting match, i won't let it through my barrel! . What year is your Pindad? Pre 90? ("AD" or "PIN"?) The older one is more better than the new one. How did you get it and how much?... BTW, the bullet isn't perfect concentric, powder's weight is vary. If "rebullet" with Sierra/Berger and scale the powder same, it will shot more "better", around 1-1,25"-3shots. It has berdan's primer, so it is very corrosive and Shooter's Choice is my choice ). I can't reach any tighter than 1,5" or so in 100meters with that ammo, while using MEN 168gr-HPBT(Germany) i can shoot sub minute of angle 5shots-100meter with my .308. That's what i can tell you....

I will not say that 1"-3shots at 100m is a tight grouping even to hunting rifles. It's just 1,...MOA and not "sub minute". I gunsmith all my bolt rifles, some of them just using military's barrel (Ex Garand,FN,M60) and old Mauser'98 LR action, set the headspace, crowning, lock time,etc.....and it all shoot 1MOA (or under) with factory ammos (MEN/HK/IK)....and i still not call my rifles "very accurate". "Touching" or "one hole" grouping is what i'm looking for.... *eldegullo, thanks for your pic, Nice grouping!

Hey Sebastian, My pindad ammo is headstamped with the year 86 on it. A guy at work has some of it he bought years ago and wants to get rid of it. I'm shooting it through an L1A1 rifle so match accuracy is not required, I just want reliability.

It's supposed for military rounds, so if you don't ask for "good accuracy", just go ahead -IMO. Sometimes you need stronger firing pin/spring to strike the primer, but as i've told you the older one is "better". I don't know for "L1A1" rifle...

quote:Hi Sebastian. I have a Savage .300 RUM Model 112FSAK that so far, my best group was .462" at 100 meters (not yards). Thats what my club has set up the distance as. I'm still in the load developement stage. That was with a Sierra Pro Hunter 150 gr .30 calibe @3450 fps. This is not a max load, just one of the accurate ones that I've developed so far. bowhuntr

quote:Well, my NM AR-15 will do .4 to .6 inch five shot groups from the bench at 100 yards with nothing more than a .030 rear aperture and a .052 front post sight. No scope required.

Sebastian -- I like Orion 1's methods and groups. I don't measure my groups, however I want them in one hole. By this I mean all three or five shots touching each other, depending on the number shots I use. I use five shot groups for standard chamberings like .308, and three shot groups for magnum chamberings like .416 Rem. I require five one hole groups with a load before I call it a finished one hole load. I have seen lots of accidental one hole groups, never to be repeated. Somedays I could not shoot one if my life depended on it, then somedays I shoot several. Obviously a one hole group with my .257 Wby is smaller than a one hole group with my .416 Rem. I don't keep a rifle that will not achieve that one hole group sometime, some take days, some two to three years. A fun day of shooting is finishing that one hole load. Many a good hunting rifle will not shoot that group for shooters that shoot only a few rounds per year, I certainly don't condemn those rifles or shooters, these are my standards only, I shoot instead of Golf or Tennis. Good shooting.

I like this forum...i like to learn, and of course i have a lot of Good Teachers here...... BTW, how can i "attach" pic(s)? In another forum (forum.huntingfirearms.com) i can do that easily since it has "browse option" so i can "pick" one/some pics in my ACDsee inbox and attach....i can not do this in this forum? Teach me please.... *Did you have 300yards(or meter)groupings? even i would like to know the longer one (say 600 or 1000yards). Many Thanks in advance. Sebastian.
