Took delivery of one this week. Very nice. Barrel is 22" and thinner profile than the 375. I like it very much. Now to see how it shoots.

I've never been able to get a straight answer, but do the #1's have ejectors on them?

ALL the No1's I've owned had ejectors. I don't know of any that don't. You can remove the forearm and turn them off but I think all come from factory activated.

I don't know if it is a 'Tropical', I've never really known what that designation meant other than for a BIG bore. The box is marked catalog number '1S' whatever that means. Looks like all other No-1A's I've ever had. Just like my 375 and 405 except with a 22" barrel that is a slimmer profile. Alexander Henry forearm and everything else is the same. Very nice handling rifle, I think I will enjoy it very much. No really distinguishing features.

1S is the one with a 22" bbl and the Alex Henry foreend and iron sights.
I had one in 243. The Magnums had a 26" bbl.

The 45/70 is called the 1H I think, also with iron sights and Alex Henry fforeends. They look like the Tropical Rifle but with thinner barrels. I much prefer these Alex Henry foreend models to the 1 B with the other type foreend.

The 45-70 is a 1S. The 1H comes in 375 H&H, 458 WM, 416 Rigby, 416 Rem., 405 Win., 458 Lott, etc. With the exception of the 45-70, which has a 22" bbl, the above ementioned rounds have 24" bbls and are of a much heavier contour. Lou

...I only wish that Ruger had made the .405 Winchester in the "S" configuration with the 22" barrel like is on the 45-70...

I thought their catalog said they were going to be 24" barrels on the 9.3x74r - are there 2 barrel lengths, did Ruger lie, am I mistaken?

A photo would be great!

I will try to shoot acouple of pics but both my camera batteries are dead and have to be recharged. You will not see anything but a plain vanilla No.1. No distinguishing characteristics. Barrel is slightly smaller and 2" shorter than my 405 and that is ONLY difference.
