I found some Federal Power Shok ammo for my new .300 Winchester, bought a few boxes to break the gun in with because they were about $10 less than any other factory ammo I could find for it. After shooting them a little, my gun loves shooting them! I was wondering if anyone had any experience shooting game with them? Good/bad experiences? The ones I got were 180-grain bullets, I was planning on working a load up for the gun this summer, but after seeing how my rifle likes these, I may just keep shooting them for deer season, too. I know there probably won't be any problem shooting whitetails with them, just looking to see how everyone else's experience has gone with them thus far.

Justin,
Any 180 grain bullet in a .308 is going to work just fine for the deer we have here in the Mon Valley or any place else for that matter. Federal makes good stuff. I would use them with confidence.

I had the same results with a 300WSM and my current 270, Power-shok is now all I shoot. Like always, proper shot placement with any deer size animal, and they wont be able to tell the difference.

I had a few clients bring them on elk hunting trips in different calibers and they worked every time. I would use them in a heartbeat without any worries. The bullets really hold together and penetrate well.

Justin,

That's so funny- my Weatherby Mark V Super Big Gamemaster in .300 Win Mag absolutely LOVES those Federal loads. I bought a bunch when it was still branded as having "Speer Hot Cor" bullets (which I believe are still what's loaded in them now, just not called the same). At the time, I believe I paid somewhere around $13.00 a box(!!!) for them. Now they're about double that, but I still buy them to use for sighting in my rifle.

While I have not take a deer with them (or any game for that matter) I would imagine they'd hold up just fine on deer-sized game. Speer touts the Hot Cor bullet as having a "molten lead" core poured into the jacket to create instant bonding and eliminate separation" or something equally ambiguous along those lines... Maybe kill some gallon jugs of water and let us know how it goes... The damn things shoot dime-sized groups into paper out of my rifle, so the freezer's always full of targets... Good luck!

I've used power shocks in my .308 and my .30-06 to kill quite a few deer. Never had any problems.

The blue box budget Federal product shoots great in either of my 243's and just as well in my 308, like a bargain that not too many guys that I have met ever give it a try. FS

I recently fired two boxes of the Power Shok .30-06, 150 grain out of a Tikka T3. I constantly was able to fire three shot groups with all holes touching.

I've had nothing but perfect satisfaction with the 180 gr .308 load for use on hogs.

I have also had surprising accuracy with the Federal Power Shok ammo in my .243's both the 80 gr and 100 gr loads. I haven't ever shot anything with them yet, but I certainly wouldn't hesitate using them. I also bought 6 boxes of the 150 gr 7mm Remington Magnum loads for a friend in Montana. Picked them up over several months at the local WalMart for $17.97 per box. I hope they shoot as well in he and his daughter's rifles as they do in my .243's.

Bullets are pretty worthless. All they do is hang around waiting to get loaded.

My .300 WM loves them, lost count of the deer and pigs shot with them and have never recovered a bullet.

I use the Blue-box Federal ammo for all of my initial testing of any new firearms that I acquire. I've found it to be very good grouping ammo.
Any of it that I've shot over the chronograph comes very close to the advertised velocity (if not exceeding)

I've used Federal ammo for hunting (.300 Win Mag & .243 Win) with complete satisfaction.

It's my "go to" for factory ammo

I use it for accuracy testing in my .375 H&H. Works quite well.

This is really good information guys. Thanks for sharing. I'll begin using this ammo, provided I can find any of it.

Thanks for all the replies, everyone! I was really surprised at the accuracy I got with them, but it looks like that is the norm with this ammo. I can't wait for the ground hogs to start popping out so I can do some quick field testing, too!
