These are the best fix I've found for a sling swivel, on my 7600's.

Yes they make a sling attachment for the front of the pump. On the early 760's that's all you could get. I had a barrel mount on my 1970's model and it worked just fine. Of course you can't use the sling as a shooting aid but that's not really how the gun was envisioned to be used. Besides if the range is long there are other better rests available.

I've read too much Jack O'Connor.

Sitting style sling shooting is very effective for me.

I hunted with a 760 probably 30 years ago. It shot OK with my handloaded 165 Sierras (1"-1.5") but I got rid of it because of the rattle in the forearm. The trigger wasn't the greatest either and lock time was relatively slow, but I took several deer and a black bear with it.
I like to slip through the woods very quietly still hunting for whitetails and the forearm rattled too much. I had Uncle Mikes sling swivels on the barrel and they worked just fine, just don't try to use the sling as a shooting aid.
I would happily hunt with one again, but now prefer CRF bolt guns.

Cow Elk. 365 yards. standing on pond dam.
Me. Sitting in deep snow elbows on knees, everything else but shoulders up supported by the snow. 165 grain Federal red box, it's favorite load, to the neck. Winter meat.
Pre 1968 Remington 760 30-06 with barrel band swivel. My thoughts are that anybody buying or using a 760 or 7600 is a hunter, probably hunting. You do your part, it will do just fine. That federal red box shot a few 5/8" groups at 200 yards over sticks. Shot a few 2" groups at 200 over sticks as well. The only difference was me on that day. The Remington 760 / 7600 had the same good barrels as the Rem 700's of that day. fix the trigger to your liking and Not much else to say.

Ive mounted scopes on a dozen or so of them that belonged to locals, every damn one of them shot exceedingly well...If they have a problem its that they rattle like a bb in a box car, as you walk around in the bush with them...

barrel bands are for carry not shooting..never have been intended for shooting, they do pull the barrel down and change the POI on every gun I tried them on some years ago.

I've never heard one rattle while carrying, mine never did. The one thing I didn't like about them was chambering a round was noisy. Like a semi auto the action must be closed with a little force to insure it's actually in battery. A bolt action is just little a bit quieter to get ready when starting out in the dead quiet of dawn.

I do like that action is pretty well sealed from the elements compared to a bolt action and they are fast for a second shot. They used to be pretty popular for elk hunting in the close range constantly wet coastal rainforest hunting in western Washington for this reason. A guy I worked with shot a lot of elk through the years with his. There wasn't a lot of blueing left on it when I saw it.

If the action rattles, then rubber o-rings need replaced. Easy to do and the o-rings can be found in most hardware stores. My pump guns are very slick when working the action and quiet when carrying the gun in the field. The rem pump guns are a little noisy when trying to jack a shell in quietly and you have to make sure they lock up or no boom.

The 760 has a little "groove" in the forearm that one's thumb fits in nicely. This allows one hand carry that rivals a 94 Winchester when Scope-less. Scoped it is still better than any bolt I own because of that little groove and the flat receiver. Mine is older than the Oring models but still has slack enough to make noise if you shake it. However I don't shake it while hunting evidently as I have killed Deer and elk near and far. What makes noise I worry about are my feet on the ground and my body and pack through the brush.
Happy hunting

A Rem 760 30/06 was my first deer gun when I moved to the Catskills, gun was purchased new in 1981.

I had a barrel band sling attached for carrying only. Took a number of deer with it. Did miss one black bear, after the first shot, as he was trotting by, the magazine fell out of the gun (My fault didn't have it latched right) second pull of the trigger as he stood looking at me from about 40 yds, was a loud click. Always double and triple checked the magazine after that encounter.
