This is not the usual "how much does this caliber recoil" question. Rather, I am curious as to how the 9.3x62 and .300 H&H compare in over all recoil and feel of the recoil? Both in rifles set up exactly the same; say a 9 lb rifle with a 25" barrel. The 9.3x62 shooting a 286 gn bullet @ 2400 fps and the .300 H&H shooting a 200 gn bullet @ 2700 fps. Each loaded with optimum powder for the caliber and bullet weight. Which has more over all recoil? And even more importantly how does the recoil compare between them as to the feel ie. a fast jab or more of a push? The velocity of the recoil? And muzzle blast (again same barrel length) is one sharper and loader than the other? I thinking of the difference between a .357 Mag vs. a .45 Colt, with the .45 loaded to "modern pressures, the .357 seems to have a much sharper report. Allen, I own and shoot both. I think the .300 H&H has a bit more kick with 180gr bullets loaded hot than my 9.3X62 does shooting 286gr factory loads. I've never needed 200gr bullets for my H&H and I've never reloaded for my 9.3X62 so my above statment is as close as I can get you. With both rifles it feels more like a hard shove than a sharp kick. I don't like recoil and I don't like hard kicking rifles but can handle both of these with ease. Lets just say my 9,3x62 is closer in felt recoil to .375H&H then to 7,62x63. Never shot .300 H&H, but I assume it's equivalent in perceived recoil to 7,62x63 HeavyMag from Hornady.

Allen, My 9,3x62 with 286 NPT at 2,400 fps recoils as follows:
I'm estimating your 9 Lb 300 with 200 grain bullet at 2,700 fps would figure:

I shoot both calibers and can't tell any difference but recoil is an individual thing and your the only one that can make that determination.. Ray Atkinson Atkinson Hunting Adventures 10 Ward Lane, Filer, Idaho, 83328 208-731-4120 rayatkinsonhunting@gmail.com

Pretty much this. I just hit the range today and fired my first 10 rounds through my new .300 Winchester, the guys on the line were making fun of how much of a beating I was about take from the Weatherby stock but it was quite agreeable to shoot, more so than any other magnums I have shot recently. Recoil is perceived differently from person to person and varies from gun to gun and is dependent on many other variables. This combination of variables that I fired today was quite favorable to my shooting tastes. Had I been shooting something in a different caliber with a different stock or barrel contour or whatever I may have well been looking for some additional padding, or alternately I may have found myself removing my shooting vest. If the gun fits, shoot it! ________ "...And on the 8th day, God created beer so those crazy Canadians wouldn't take over the world..."
