Hi guys: Anybody see or held the new TC Icon that is advertised in every gun magazine from here to lower jabit? Anybody know for sure when this rifle is supposed to be shipping? I see advertised pricing from $800 to over $1000. I wonder if TC will reamin the same now that they were purchased by S&W...??? Regards... Jim P. I've never actually seen one. What I heard was that the first run had very nice wood and sold out quickly. It is, therefore, shipping but I'm not sure how available. From what I've read, I don't think there is anything that unique about the T/C Icon other than the Weaver style base that's integral with the receiver. I don't think it's more accurate, better made, less expensive, etc. than other bolt action rifles already being made. I have no interest in having one. Thus far, from my point of view, T/C seems the same. I recently sent them one of their scopes that had malfunctioned. I had a brand new replacement scope from them in less than a week. Of course with time, T/C may become more like S&W. On second thought, maybe T/C has changed. It now produces the T/C Icon that wasn't unique or needed, they hatched the 30 TC cartridge which is about the most worthless addition to the .308 caliber cartridge lineup that I can think of and rumor has it that some of their barrels are made in Spain. They also eliminated the trigger over travel screw on the Encore which means one must pay to have one put in if one ever wants a trigger job on the Encore. These are probably symptoms of S&W seeing how they can do things more cheaply.

I have not personally seen the Icon . As an owner of TC's I'm now bothered by S&W owning them !. Some where sort cuts are going to be made so as to be competitive !. I believe it's referred to as Down Sizing !. If your unfamiliar with that term in a nut shell it means . CEO's Make huge profits while canning loyal employees . While under the guise of farming out critical operations to some 3 Rd. world YO YO so competitive price structuring can occur !. Similar to U S foreign aid policy's . Far easier to steal money era marked for foreign aid then domestic aid . I will not buy one now S&W runs the show !. Shoot Straight Know Your Target . ...

Well T/C did all the design and development of the Icon before their acquisition, and S&W did not play a part. T/C makes their own barrels, and they take pride in how well they do it. I would be surprised to find a Hecho en Espagne label on one of them. I believe that T/C was looking to develop a rifle that they can sell to the tactical rifle crowd, and not necessarily to hunters. jim if you're too busy to hunt, you're too busy.

i have to concur with 2 posts - the icon is probably designed for the tactical rifle crowd and the "new" cartridge is as useless as tits on a bull who would buy a rifle that you cannot reload to match the factory ballistics because the powder isn't sold to the public. answer - governments - they don't reload another " sell job " by the maker. only 2 bullet weights available - and all of 15 grains apart.wow, isn't that a big difference. this little toy will never hold a candle to real 30 cal cartridges like the 300 win mag. but it gives marketing "something new to sell " and pawn off on the unsuspecting better they stick to their single shot muzzloaders or whatever was their claim to fame before s & w gobbled them up. the picatinny rail on the receiver top bespeaks real quality...... I'm surprised there hasn't been any more comments on the TC Icon since July. That must be a good indication of pure boredom with the new introduction. There isn't a need for a new lightweight rifle like the Kimbers, New UltraLight Arms, Remington Titanium, etc., BUT why would anyone introduce a new bolt action that weighs as much as this rifle? I simply fail to see any need or desire for this rifle from anyone. Am I missing something? Does anyone have anything good to say about this rifle? Someone commented that it was designed for the tactical crowd. If so, it is a darn poor attempt. Other than the scope base, it sure doesn't look "tactical" to me. My apology, but I've read so many good articles about it, and I just don't get it. Someone set me straight, please.

I totally apologize for this post. I didn't search long enough to find this topic thoroughly hashed out already. Is there anyway to withdraw a post?

Well there seem to be lots of opinions and few facts on this thread. The facts are that S&W has added thousands of jobs in my area over the last few years, hardly downsizing for the CEO to make big bucks. Also S&W offers a lifetime warranty on there guns and I have had and heard of only first class experiences with S&W making things right. If they can't fix it they send you a new one. Maybe it is more fun to make things up and pull theories out of your ass instead of taking time to look up the facts.

I've only dealt with S&W once, one of their scopes broke on me after 3yrs of use, I sent it in for replacement, they refunded my money cuz they couldn't replace it. Here's an Icon report... http://www.predatormastersforums.com/ubbthreads/showfla...page=&fpart=all&vc=1

I saw 2 Icons at sportsmens wharhouse. The wood is real nice. Don't care much for the bolt handle. One was a .243 and I think the other was a .308. Price was 850.00 read a review of the new hornady rounds and the 30 TC was shot through one of the icons and accuracy was dismal. I,d rather spend 575.00 on a hawkey or wait for the new model 70s...tj3006 freedom1st

I saw one at my local range. It was a very nice looking rifle. Not sure it is worth the kind of dollars that are mentioned above though. On another note I too get tired of the "lets bash Smith and Wesson crowd". I have 6 or 7 S&Ws including a PC model and every single one of them is high quality, very accurate, and very well made. The specs I've seen on the Icon show it to be somewhat on the heavy side. This, along with some purposefully unconvenential looks (the dished striker and flattened bolt handle look somewhat odd to the classicist), would seem to narrow the market. My guess it that it will be a short-lived novelty that enjoys an abbreviated production run. However, TC is willing to put a lot of money into promoting their products -- witness the success of the otherwise homely and marginal Encore rifle. You can't turn on a hunting show on television without seeing one.

I was really quite excited about them until I finally saw one at a local dealer. I can't speak for functionality, but the aesthetics were less than spectacular. The end of the forearm had been badly cut, so it looked as though the barrel was not centered in the stock. I'd imagine this is a one-off problem. The receiver has a matt finish which didn't match the barrel. It reminded me of a 10/22. The angular shape of the receiver didn't do much for me either. Just my observations, - one man's meat is another man's poison.
