Gents:

I am considering the specs on another project:
M70 in 300 H&H using an Echols Legend stock to pair it up with my 375.

Has anyone used a 26" barrel in their Legend?

jsl if you mean does a 26" barrel balance well in the stock the answer is "yes"...a friend has both a 375(25" barrel) and a 300 Weatherby (26" Krieger)in Legends and both are fine, very shootable rifles.I have shot the 300 quite a bit.

I would talk to Darcy Echols about which "fill" you should use for a 300 H&H...the Edge may or may not work best...I don't know.

the 26 inch works best in any 30 magnum from a balistic standpoint. all my 300 H&H rifles have long tubes. the 300 H&H outshines most 30 mags with 200 and 220 gr bullets. the rums etc excluded.

I currently have only one 300H&H rifle and it is a single shot. The single shot balances perfectly with a 27" barrel and shoots GREAT.

I've had 300H&H bolt rifles with 24", 25", and 26" barrels. The 26" barrels were just as easy to carry, were at least equal in accuracy, and the extra length gave a little more velocity.

If given the choice in the 300H&H, I'd take longer barrels over shorter barrels every time.

26 inches at least is the way to go. They seem to be easier to shoot off hand. Ballisticaly better too.

My 721 has the fairly heavy factory barrel, my rebarreled Whitworth (Mark 10 Mauser) as a fairly light 27" inch barrel, and never has seemed too long in the field. Why 27 inches? When I was a kid I read an article about the 300 H&H and a British made rifle with a 27 or 27 1/2" barrel. Struck my fancy and when I got the courage to barrel my first rifle I had 27" of useable barrel, so I didn't cut it any shorter. Have never regretted the decision.
