Hi Lex:

How do you like that .500 A square? I know you and I got our AHR 458 Lott's around the same time.

Is your 45/70 a lever action? I was kicking around getting a Marlin 336 in the new 308 Hornady ammo.

Regards... Jim P.

Jim, I love the .500. It really packs a big punch. 570 grain bullets at 2,500 fps are manageable. Drop the velocity to 2,300 and it's comparable to a Lott in recoil - actually the .500 is a bit easier on the shoulder than the Lott because the .500 weighs a bit more.

My .45-70 is an early 1970s vintage Marlin Model 1895. Straight stock and no safety. I put a Williams receiver sight on it. It's a great woods gun. 350 grain bullets at right around 2,000 fps pack a pretty good punch, too.

Hi El D.... Hey another PA boy.

Hey Lex: Is the .500 A from Ed P. at AHR also? My Lott goes 12 lbs. How heavy is the .500?

I only have two Marlin lever actions, an old model 39 in excellent condition, and the first 44 Mag in a model 336...

I cut my teeth on bolt actions, first rifle was an old Stephens 22, then mostly early model 700's.

I am headed to New Zealand in March 08 for Red Stag, when are you headed out abroad again?

Hi Tracks: I was wondering when a 500 Jeffery was going to show up, the Gibbs is here, all we need is Rob's 600 OK.... BOOM

Regards... Jim P.

Or for experimentation, my .500 A-Square with 975 grain cast bullets at 2200 fps.

The choices are killing me.

With high mounts that husky carries very well in the field and recoil is all in your mind, not your shoulder. Try it on a crow, you'll see.

2. Mid size big game: AKA Whitetail deer. 7 X 57 but it only edges the 6.5 X 55 out by just a little

3. Black Bear: 30-06

4. Brown Bear: .358 X .404 IMP

5. African Plains Game: 8mm X .404 X 2.5 IMP[/COLOR[COLOR:BLUE]It has a slight advantage over the 30-06

6. Big Tough and dangerous Game:I would again go with the .358 X .404 IMP

7. Big Dangerous Game holycowProbably the .458 Lott.
