I don't want to start another Balistic tip love/hate fest here. I just have a few questions that I would like the answers to if anyone knows. To quote Seargent Friday; "Juust the facts mam or sir" I'm more intrested in the 7mm and 308 calibers, both BT and Balistic Silvertip. 1.) When did they first come out? 2.) When were they first loaded in Federal Premium Ammunition.? 3.)When and how many times have they been modified/changed/improved? 4.)Is there any difference in the BT and the C/T BST? Thanks for your help, capt david

I'll take the easy one. The only difference betweena BT and a CT (Combined technoligy, AKA BST) is the Lubaloy coating and the color of the plastic tip.

My findings with the BST is the jacket was thinner than the NBT. They did NOT hold up at all being pushed to velocities above 3100fps. After miserable bullet failure on a B&C buck a few years ago I quit fooling with the BST. Accuracy in my rifle wasnt as good with the BST as it was with the NBT either. Rumor has it they thickened the jackets on the BST about 3 years ago. But I havent tried them to see. Besides, there's a new sheriff in town...the Nosler accubond.
Actually that particular test means absolutely nothing today since it was conducted in 1998.The 180gr .308" ballistic tip was redesigned two years ago with a much thicker jacket.I just returned from an elk hunt where the newer version penetrated both shoulders of an elk then lodged in the hide. The recovered bullet weighed 111.7gr. for 62% weight retension. The bullet was fired in a 300ultramag and had an impact velocity of over 2900fps.
