Interested to see if owners of 6.5/284 are happy with their load&field results and configuration of their rifles. Are you happy yes/no/indifferent that you got one? Looking back,do you wish you had just stuck with anything bore based on 308win or 30/06 case? For those considering something, which turn you on more.. 6.5/284 like this Ti-SA rig, or 6.5x65rws,270win,280rem like this Ti-LA rig, Does a WSMm70receiver in 6.5mmReMag do anything for you? Interestingly NOSLER Ammo has 260rem/125np only fractionally behind 6.5/284 and 6.5mmRm.

I built my 6.5x284 for long range varmint shooting so at 12 lbs with a 26" Krieger barrel and a varmint stock it works great but the second day of humping it up and down the hills at 7,000 feet for antelope last season had me thinking otherwise. But when I had to make a 268 yard neckshot on a great buck and follow that up the next day with a 732 yard shot on a coyote, I had 100% confidence in it and it performed like a champ. I'm happy with it. Frank "I don't know what there is about buffalo that frightens me so.....He looks like he hates you personally. I love my 6.5/284 and have found it to be better performer than I expected. Like Fjold's it was built for long range varmit shooting, and isn't by any means a timber rifle. What I have learned because I choose to build it on a Rem 700 short action is that I would go to the .260 or the .260 AI on the rebarrel. Most people would not believe the ranging performance of this cartridge if they haven't seen it for themselves. 140/142 grain bullets at 3,000 ft/secs do fly flat, and retain energy as well. Woodjack, My 6.5-284 is a lightweight hunting rifle. It is based on a Mexican Mauser action with a very light 24" Douglas barrel. It is an awesome combo, it has killed many deer. As a matter of fact it is now being stocked for my Daughter as her first centerfire rifle. Thanks, Doug

Mine are both built on the new Sako 85 actions, one stainless, one CM. They are incredibly accurate. One of them shoots damn near any load I feed it into sub .50, the on game performance has been great, the go to load for hunting is the 130 AB, just incredible performance, does 3000 fps easy, 25" barrel. Light enough for me, I lugged it all around New Mexico running after antelope, and it took a good one at a lasered 318 yards, held high in the kill zone, and it hit right there. The other one is set up with 130 XXX's, and I think it will be a hammer on whitetail at distance, I've got a few stands in Kansas where it will see some duty. It also shoots the 140 SGK HP's into itty bitty groups, so I'll shoot a few Ga whitetails with it soon, have already used that bullet with the other one, it is a hammer on 80-110 lb Georgia does. Both of mine sport Lothar Walther barrels. Have had real good luck with them so far. I've found the 6.5x284 to be extremely accurate cartridge--what they call 'inherent' accuracy maybe? I can just tell you they shoot! And no, I don't think I would have preferred either of these rifles in any of the other calibers you list, although I do have other rifles in several of those calibers, notably I have a pile of .270's, and I like these 6.5x284's as good as anything I have. A breeze to reload for, and very versatile IMO.
