Super Performance? Let’s see, where to start. I own rifles chambered anywhere from 17 caliber through 45 calibers. I tend to use those chambered between 6.5 and 30 calibers for the most part. Narrowing it down just a skosh it would be the 6.5 x 55 Swede, the 7mm-08 and the 300 H&H. Plus, the rifles that are the latest to follow me home seem to catch my interest for a spell. I enjoy loading various combinations of bullets and powders to see what the rifle likes. If it’s a shooter based on my loads, I keep it. If it is not up to expectations, it goes to Gunbroker. Yesterday was my first opportunity to do that with the latest one. Blaser R-93, chambered for the 7mm-08 Remington. I’m particularly fond of the 7mm-08 chambering, and over the last 20 years or so have probably perforated more stuff with that round than any other single chambering. I had not planned on buying the Blaser, but every now and then, a blind hog finds an acorn! Anywho, I took it to the range yesterday. It came in a Blaser case with the 30 mm QR ring bases already affixed to the scope and having been pre-enjoyed………… I figured if that be the case, the rifle might just be on target, so I dispensed with getting on paper at 25 yds like I normally do when mounting a scope, and set up at 100 yds. As an aside, there are prolly close to 7,000 members at the Pearland Shooting club, but old farts like me get there early to set up. Not a soul in sight! Well sure enough, it was First three using some Nosler 140 gr. Ballistic Tips. I’ve been trading at the same LGS for nigh on 30 years, and always take care of the “Indians” rather than the “chiefs”. Consequently, when ammo is brought in by folks that want to dispose of it, I usually get a call. The LGS can’t resell it, and they know that I’m not going to sue. Well between that, a couple boxes given to me by my good friend Sakohunter264 and my handloads, I figured there might be something there the rifle liked. I decided to employ my chrony as one of the offering was the Hornady 139 grain SST, Super Performance load. A number of guys now are employing the LabRadar chronograph, but I still use the Shooting Chrony. Not sure how accurate it is, but it works well enough to get a correlation between different load densities, bullet weights vs. accuracy during a shooting session. Next I tried 150 gr. Ballistic tip handloads, Not too shabby. American Whitetail next, And the Super performance last. Would have shot a 3 shot group but got distracted and had to call the range cold. Only negative thing about being the first one there at the bench rest range is that you are designated as the Range officer. I do not shoot that much factory ammunition as I enjoy tinkering, but many times I note that factory ammo may have greater velocity than my handloads. What was surprising in this instance was that the velocity of the Super Performance Ammo was nearly 200 fps. Greater than the two other loadings @ 139 and 140 grainse respectively. This is where I left off! Years ago, prolly around 2005, I had a Kimber chambered for 300 WSM, and I had loaded some 180 Gr. Hornady SST’s to try. I shot a hoglet running straight away from me at about 75 yds. Did it make a mess. So, I’ve not tried the SST’s since. But I just might do so once again. Ya! GWB

It’s a blaser what can I say. The r8 is pretty cool but a lot of people say the r-93 is a better handling rifle. Mike

Messy for sure. Never found the lead from any ballistic tip bullets in deer or hogs. Just some copper outer shell. Lots of devastation. They sure do kill stuff. prolly? What's that G? Life itself is a gift. Live it up if you can.

You have to match the SST to the game (& velocity), I’ve used them on goats, red, fallow, rusa and sambar deer out of the .270 and 8x57IS - don’t eat the shoulder meat but you don’t need a dog as they drop within sight. I have some .30 cal but I doubt I’ll ever use them in my .300 as I tend to shoot my animals close in Formerly Gun Barrel Ecologist
