I am wanting to work up a flatter shooting load out to 300 yards for my 7-08. I'll be using it on these small Southern CA deer. Which bullets do you guys think I should try? "I will not raise taxes on those making more than 250k"

I just bought some Barnes 120 grain TTSX boattails for my 7 x 57.....they shoot quite well but I haven't poked any holes in big game with them yet.... I'm betting they will put venison in the freezer nicely. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." A 140 grain Partition only drops 4.2" AT 300 yards with a 250 yard zero. How flat do you need it?

as flat as possible as I can pretty well judge my max distance 300 yards but I have a little difficulty judging the inbetween distance acurrately so I figure getting the flattest shooting bullet in that range would be best. Right now I am set up (field tested) with 140 GR bullet 4" high at 100 yards and 5" low at 300 yards. "I will not raise taxes on those making more than 250k"

How about a 120gr BT, should be just the ticket for those little deer.

I just bought some of those 120 gr 7mm blue tip bullets too, and a new 7mm-08, and some dies, brass, etc., so when it all arrives and the weather cooperates, I'll be at the range, then in the woods. My son shoots a .284 Win and for the last 4 years he has used Speer 130 grain Spitzer Boat Tails for Mule Deer, Elk and Antelope. We started him off with shooting them at about 2500 fps as he was smaller and recoil sensitive and they worked great, we are now pushing them to 3125 fps and they are a hammer on Deer and Antelope with exits every time and a lot of internal heart lung damage. The last two animals were just under 300 yards both were textbook heart shots with exits and no tracking required. You will have similar results with a 7mm-08.

Since you are in So. California can we assume that you have to use non-lead for your deer hunting. If so the 120 txs or the the 140tsx will work well. they wont be as flat shooting as the vlds but they will do if you cant have lead. Rel #15 works well as well as H4350 with the 140gr

My wife uses 140 accubonds in her 7x57. She is good to 300yds plus. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

I mostly shoot the 140 gr. TTSX's out of my 7mm-08 (used to use the TSX's), but since you asked about the 120's, here is the load my rifle likes. I will be trying the 120's more this year. Any good 120 gr. hunting bullet will get the job done for you. Good Hunting, Bob 120 gr. TTSX 41.9 grs. TAC Win. That is the exact Bullet I was going to recommend for ya. And the Powder would be H414. If you are forced to use the Politically Correct Bullets(PCBs), then the Speer isn't what you need. What you do need then, is to vote the fools out. I don't need any stinkin' PCBs!

What load are you using? I was thinking of trying them in my old Ruger M77 7x57.

Unusual caliber.bet it leaves the 204 Ruger in the dust. That 140 gr bullet must be around 3 feet long.

thanks for the replies, these are little deer here and I am south of the BS condor zone so I am going to start with Speer 130 gr and the Barnes 120 gr TSX as that looks like nice 120 gr. All I have is Varget so should work well "I will not raise taxes on those making more than 250k"

Then I should mention there won't be very much of the Bullet inside the Caseneck. But don't let it concern you. The 130gr Hot-Cor has a bit more grasp because it does not have the Boat Tail. It concerned me at first and then I tried to "Pull" a 130gr BTSP - straight - out of the Case. The Neck tension held it firmly in place even though there is only a small amount of Bullet in contact with the Caseneck. Good Hunting and clean 1-shot Kills.

VARGET is a very good powder in the 7-08. I have the Speer 130gr. hotcor loaded for my Tikka with 42gr. I have not even fired one as I do very well with the 120gr. NBT with same load of Varget. It is really good on the small deer which is about all I ever shoot. I need to fire some of the Speer 130's and see how they group. I keep skipping over them for some reason. I am going to try the 140gr.Nosler BT and Partition this year. The load is 47 gr. RL-17. The NBT's shoot real good and have not fired the Partitions yet. Merg
