Looking for a new 308 that won't break the bank.
What's best at a reasonable price?

I have had good results from the Ruger American I bought in .308.
Accurate, light weight and was only $360.00 with tax.
Got it two years ago.
Will buy another if they chamber one in a cartridge I think I need.
Like 6.5 PRC.......

I too have one in Ruger American. Cost me $300 to my door. Will shoot 1/2" groups with match ammo and 3/4" groups with cheap military ball ammo. It is a rough rifle and nothing to look at but man does it shoot.

Probably hard to go wrong with any of the basic budget rifles. They all seem to give a similar package for what you pay. Savage Axis' have a rep for great accuracy, Weatherby Vanguards are good. My most recent acquisition is a T/C Venture by S&W that seems very comparable as well. Functional, good adjustable trigger, tupperware stock and shoots real good. The only thing Im not too fond of is the 3 rd clip, but it works. I would say go to a local outlet and see which one feels best to you.

All of the above rifles are great suggestions, you might also check out the Howa's.
Pretty good rifle for the money and they are also same rifle as a Weatherby Vanguard.

I have loaded for a few 308’s, including a friends standard 308 Ruger American and my own 700 ADL. It is hard to makes a 308 shoot poorly with any reasonable load, as it is such a forgiving round. I’ve had great results with 165 Nosler BT’s and Accubonds over as much Varget as a given rifle can tolerate. I would recommend any of the budget minded 308’s on the market, but the cheap TC rifles I’ve looked at had the most horrible triggers imaginable. I would go with a Ruger American, Rem 700 ADL, or a Savage AXIS, in that order.

Heed the words of Winston Smith in Orwell's 1984:

"Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right."

What are you planning on using a .308 Win for, and what's a reasonable price? We can recommend what we think we would want a .308 to do and what we think is reasonable price. There are are a lot of good suggestions already for really budget minded rifles.

There is a used Ruger American at the Cabelas Ft Oglethorpe store that used to be mine. Very accurate and super affordable. I’m not crazy about the trigger but that can be easily fixed with a drop in replacement. Also super light and makes a great stalking rifle. Mimtraded it for a Browning X-Bolt in .308 just because. They are both great rifles.

Excellent German quality at very reasonable prices. I'd check Euro Optic. It will price match.

I recently acquired one of the new Mauser M-18s in 308. I had 3 different factory loads I tried and it shot all of them into penny sized groups.

Hi Magnum Hunter 1,

That is one impressive rifle, especially considering 3 different factory loads into tiny groups.

I love accurate rifles, and it sure sounds like you have a super accurate rifle.

Germany is renowned for its highly skilled craftsmen. Seems like a lot of the best of anything requiring precision is made in Germany.

If lawyers would get out of the way of American craftsmen, we'd be tops in the world.

It was all 150gr. stuff: Winchester Ballistic Silvertips, Hornday SSTs and Hornady American Whitetail. I figure, why bother to handload.

They are both made at the same factory and on the barrel making machinery as Blaser.

They are both great values. I am tempted to by them but I just buy additional blaser barrels.
