I'm going to buy a new rifle and I've pretty much decided on an A-bolt Medallion with a BOSS. I'm a lefty so its only available with the BOSS in .270, 7mm rem mag, 30.06, and .300 win mag (though I have no interest in the .300). I'll probably be only hunting whitetail so a .270 should probably be my choice but then again I'm intrigued by a 7mm rem mag since I've never owned a magnum. I have a pre-war M70 in 30.06 and would be happy with another rifle in that caliber. I don't like the fact that the 7mm has a 26" barrel while they .270 and 30.06 have a shorter 22". Any of you gentleman want to give me your thoughts on this situation?

thought #1: be sure to put in ear plugs before you pull the trigger even while hunting. If you can find the BOSS system without the 'break' that would be a better choice since the 270 has very manageable recoil.

I love the 270 for deer. I also have a 7 mag. It is a custom rifle left handed Rem. that I'm actually looking to sell since I rarely shoot it.

I have 3 .270s and that caliber by far is perfect for deer in my book. The browning rifles are actually pretty accurate. I've owned a couple. I like the short bolt throw.

What I didn't like about the Browning is the barrels always heated up quick and took a long time to cool down, so range time was always longer than I liked. Both of my Brownings were also real picky on how clean the barrel needed to be. Once I put about 12 or so rounds through it, the barrel needed cleaning because accuracy really diminished after that.

Back to the 7mag: I really like this gun for a bit longer range on deer. Don't get me wrong, the 270 has worked for me every time, but the 7mag shooting a 160 grainer is a bit more punch out at 400 yards.

I have a Remington 700 BDL leftie with a 24" Select Match Shilen #4 contour barrel. It is fitted with a break but can switch that out for the cap. I have found that the loads do not change. The action is blue, the barrel is bead blasted stainless. The action is completely blueprinted, trigger is factory at 3lbs. Original wood stock pillar bedded and cutom painted in 'Southwest ORegon.' This gun loves Sciroccos, partitions, ballistic tips, Sierras and Hornadys. Not picky at all. Multiple bullet wts and diff powders too. Fitted with a leup 4.5x14. I simply don't shoot it as much since I moved to Ohio. I don't hunt in the longer ranges as often, plus I own a 300 Ultra now.

Be sure if you buy the Browning you do a good barrel burnishing.
