I just bought a heavy barrled .308 that I want to use to take a coyote or two. I am a handloader and was wondering if any body had any good bullet combinations for varmiting. I am not looking to blow the hell out of them so bullet weight is a issue. thanks for any help..

I've shot a number of groundhogs with the 125 grain Nosler Ballistic tip. Works quite well on them, and accuracy was OK. I want to try Hornady's 110 grain V-Max this summer.
I liked the Hornady 110 grain spire point. It was accurate and not too destructive. I pushed it to 2600 fps since I never shot more than 150 yards on called coyotes.
If your rifle won't shoot the Nosler 125 grain Ballistic Tip with 51.5 grains of W748 behind it, you probably need to have the bedding and/or action trueness examined by a competent 'smith.
Seat the bullet .030" into the case. Don't try to load long.
Green 788 is right, try the 125 BT and between 51.3 and 51.5 gr. of 748. At 51.5 it shoots .5 MOA in my 308's @ 3180 pfs. A buddy of mine has a rifle likes 51.3 gr. best. Also the Speer 125 TNT works great with the same load. The Speer is more fragile than the Nosler BT but the BT has a better BC. I tend to shoot the Nosler the most, because of the B.C. it has, both are equal in the accuracy department.

A compressed load of Varget (51.0) plus or minus .5 of a grain shoots 3200 fps and close to a quarter minute with the nosler 125. If you want to go real high speed with something a little more frangibile and even more accurate;
Try a Hornady 110 V-MAX with AA 2520 (52 gr. and work your way up) you may see 3300+ fps with no pressure signs.
Have not seen the Speer 130gr.HP mentioned. Shot many rockchucks and a few coyotes with this bullet. It works great and is cheaper than the Noslers. Shot benchrest in the early 80's and used this bullet.
Don't overlook the Speer 125 TNT in .30 caliber. The TNT in .25 caliber is accurate in my .250 Savage. One writer recently praised the accuracy of the .22 cal TNT's.
I use Sierra 110gr hp over a 40gr charg of Re#7 and my Remington 700BDL loves it. I use 38gr of IMR4198 under the same Sierra bullet and it makes my model 7 about as acurate as the 700BDL with the other load. It will drop a big dog now!
