Any of you guys have any experience with burris optics? I am trying to decide between a leupold and burris scope on my 7mm RM. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

The latest Burris is pretty good stuff. Right now, it seems like you get a little more bang for the buck with Burris, but Leupold gets the nod for service. HTH, Dutch.

Hey molar1

I have a Burris Black Diamond 4x16x50 SF 30mm with the Ballistic Mil Dot and a Burris Signature 3x12x44 1" tube with the Ballistic Plex. By far the Black Diamond is the best of the 2. It is very clear and I really like the side focus. The Signature does not have any way to adjust the objective and that is a serious mistake at 12x, lots of parallax.

With the 7 mag you should be able to load a 140 gr bullet to match the ballistic mil dot reticle but the ballistic plex is made for a slower bullet.

IMO, unless you want the ballistic reticle you would get a much better scope by spending the money on a Zeiss Conquest, they have become very affordable and my Zeiss Conquest has the clearest and brightest image of any of my scopes. I got this one from Jon for $419.00 a few months ago.

clearly superior to anything else in it's price range (especially Leupold)! stir

I've got several of the FFII models with balliticplex and have been very happy with them, decent glass for the money, and the ballistic plex is actually right on with the '06 loads I use. I'm going to shift one of them over to my 300 win as soon as I get the stock sorted.

Burris scopes pack Pentax glass. They tend more toward "stout" than "sleek". I would use one in a heartbeat. This is from someone who owns 15+ leupolds, and a smattering of high end Euro-glass.

I have a fair amount of leupolds around 22 of them. I like the life time warranty service they provide with no argument. Also I have two Burris scopes a 4 X 12 compact and a 6 X 24 Signature with the ballistic plex. Both have worked flawlessly for me. I've been looking at the 3 X 12 and that range of scope is appealing to me.

I have 8 or 10 Burris about that many Leupolds some weavers simmions ect.

Had horrible time with Burris getting a scope fixed took two years 7 times back and forth. In the end I wrote the president a personal letter telling them to keep it. They sent me a new scope then.

Now that leupold has the hunters and varmint plex out I would go with them instead of Burris if one can afford the price.

On the other hand all my other Burris scopes have work well so far.

But leupold seems to have a better repair policy.

I have a Burris with Blistic plex 4x16 and at 600 yds I shot the bulls eye with one shot.
I have it on my 300 RUM. All my other rifles have Leupole scopes.

Which Burris?

Some of the Burris line is now made by contractors in Asia, either the Phillipines or China I believe. It is to be expected to perform about like other Asian proprietary scopes.

The original Burris line was very similar to the Redfields from which it sprang: Fairly high quality but old technology. They were long and heavy for a given power and had a rather constricted eye window.

I have no experience with their newer top of the line models, but they are more expensive than the proven Leupold VX-II line, so it is puzzling why they should attract much attention, especially considering the spotty reputation Burris has for customer service.

However, difference of opinion is what makes the world go around (though in a somewhat wobbly manner at times). If you see something you like about the Burris, by all means purchase it. This will help keep Leupold from inflating their prices any more than they already have.

This is what I know about Burris customer service:

I bought a Burris 6X HBR off ebay, and it wouldn't hold zero. So I sent it back...

About three weeks later, I got a letter and a catalog from Burris. What they told me was that the scope I had was over 12 years old, and although it was still under warranty, parts would be a bit hard to come by and it would take some time. They offered me 75% off everything they had in their catalog except the Titanium model in exchange. Long story longer, there is now a 30 MM Euro model 2.8 X 10 sitting in my gun safe, awaiting finish of my custom .35 Whelen...

For my money, Burris just stood up REAL tall! And I have always owned Leupolds...

Burris sold you that new scope for less than it cost them, and way less than it would have cost them to fix your old one. But you're justifiably very happy and they're getting good press. That's the kind of win-win that customer service divisions should engage in more often.

I have a friend who got a simlar deal on a Steiner binocular. They made a buddy for life.

I have an early Fullfield 1.5X-5X. While servicable, I don't like it as well as steel-tube Weavers from the same era.
