Anyone own a Win Model 70 in the Featherweight chambered for the .300WSM. Would like some idea what the recoil would be like. Thanks

Jerry,

I no longer have my Mod 70 Fwt in 300 WSM, but when I did have it the felt recoil with 165 grain bullets was about the same in the Fwt as it is in my Supergrade 300 Win using the same bullets. The 300 Win weighs about 1.5 lbs more than my Fwt did. Do a search on this site and see if someone hasn't posted some recoil figures for that round.

Good Hunting,

Jerry,

The March 2003 issue of Accurate Rifle magazine has a chart with the following recoil data included for 8 lb rifles:

300 WSM, 150 gr @ 3275 fps/66 gr pwdr__25.4 ft-lb
300 Win, 150 gr @ 3290 fps/75 gr pwdr__28.4 ft-lb

These are just numbers on paper that don't take into account the fit of the stock to the shooter. And my experience has been that 300 Win mag rifles weigh a bit more than the Fwt. WSM's so that would offset some of the difference. But they also burn more powder so that increases the recoil. If you have a rifle and a load for it, then you can calculate the recoil. Or you can do a search on this site: somewhere there is a website listed that contains a Recoil Calculator.

Hope this helps!

Good Hunting!
