Every 3 or 4 shots, when I squeeze the trigger to the release point, the trigger goes click, then there is a slight delay, the firing pin goes forward and the cartridge fires. That delay is driving me crazy, it cost me an elk last season because of the delayed reaction of the firing mechanism. Any thoughts about adjustments, should I replace the trigger, if so with what? Sometimes it goes off crisply, like it should. I've cleaned it and it still does it. I took it out yesterday and 3 out of 7 shots had the delayed reaction. Very disconcerting. What do you suggest

700 rounds through my 673 and I've never experienced what you are talking about.

First thought: strip and clean the bolt. It's very common to have old cleaning fluid turn to varnish in the bolt.

Second thought: when, exactly, did this happen? If it's a relatively new event (ie: only started last season) but never did it before then there's something new introduced into the mix from prior.

Sure, you could buy a Rifle Basix 1.5-4# trigger. I've got one and it's so much better than the OEM trigger I have a hard time describing it. But I don't know if it would actually change the stickiness...it sounds like something else is worth exploring.

Robert

Other thought: were you shooting in sub freezing temps? Is it possible that there's some water that froze in the bolt? SOP for a lot of hunters in cold climates is to completely degrease a bolt and run the action dry of any fluids to prevent a frozen trigger.

Just a thought.

Robert

I have a 673 in 300 saum. Those rifles have the j lock on the bolt and the firing pin spring is real long. It's my guess it might be gummed up and dragging inside the bolt. I changed the firng pin and spring in mine and got rid of the j lock. Midway has replacement firing pin assembly. Hope this helps
