being as you got the Whelen and the H&H all these cartridges are going to be repetitous..........so then I would go these days with a 375 Ruger rather than the Norma .

The 260 gr Nos Accu is a great bullet for elk/Namerican game .

The problem with your suggestion is that it makes way too much sense... Big Grin

Seriously....that IS an option and a good one.

The Norma for all intents and purposes is a handload only thing and you can get regular factory loads for the .375 Ruger.

Buying ammo is not very difficult. Yes you can't buy at walmart out in nowhere. However since I shoot wildcats 90% of the time buying ammo in the field has never been an issue.

I've used my 358 for 5 or 6 years still shooting factory. Like vapodog said 50 cases will be all you need.

As to not build rifles that more or less overlap would eliminate all but 2 or 3 rifles from my safe. Talk about boring.

As usual just my $.02

vapodog ----- Try the Norma, it is a great round. I shoot a couple of .358 STA's and have found excellent bullet selections. The fast 35's are awesome in the larger animals. Good shooting.

Like I recently told a friend...

If you want something different get your dick pierced, but please don't tll me about it before or afterwards.

a 358Norma is a ballistic and functional twin to a 338Winchester.

Frankly I've had and reloaded for both and all the differences are in favor of the 338win.

Better selection of bullets, loading data, brass availability
and frankly if you ever want loaded ammo for a 338 you can get it nearly anywhere...

But if you MUST have something different and aren't into body piercings or tattoos I suppose there are worse things that you could blow your money on...

Go with a .358STA if you want the best 35cal magnum.

The 358 Norma was developed for people who wouldn't be caught dead with a 338 or a 375, of any persuasion.

I tend to use more than enough gun

Several people have pointed out that there is very little difference between the 358 Norma and the 9.3x64.Very true. Several have mentioned the difficulty in obtaining brass for each of them.If you watch at gun shows , flea markets etc you will be surprized at how often you find a box or two of brass or loaded ammo. Even if you have to go with other brass to get you started. I shot my 358 Norma for years using necked up 338 win cases. As for 9.3x64 cases they can be made quite easily from 458 or 338 brass. I prefer using 458. All you need is access to a small lathe. Trim the belt off the 458 case. Reduce the case head slightly and cut the extractor groove a little deeper and use the 9.3x64 shell holder as a "go guage". I made a die that necks the 458 case to approx 41 cal(a 416 taylor die also works perfectly or shorten up a 416 rem die).Complete the sizing in the FL 9.3x64 and you are ready to load and fire your cases. I use Win brand 458 cases and find they are the same weight and have the same internal capacity as the RWS cases have.Bullets
are readily availible from Barnes,A-frame, Nosler and Speer as well as offshore makers like Woodliegh & RWS TUG bullets.Barnes TSX, Swift A frame and the 286 gr Partition are all great on real big game and the 250 gr accubond is just super on elk and moose. Rl 15 and IMR 4320 work very well in the 9.3x64. I'm also trying some of the new 4007 powder that is between 4320 and 4350 in burning speed and has super fine kernels.Haven't chronographed any of these loads yet but they group nicely. Anyone who claims they cam't find components for either of these thumpers can't be looking very hard.
